MY #1 hottest yard sale buy of ALL time….drum roll please…..framed poster of The Beatles from 1965!!!!!
Takes me back to when I was 13. I saw them in their first movie “A Hard Day’s Night,” and that was it…forever smitten! Even though the guys still living (Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr) are in their mid-70’s…doesn’t matter…I’m stuck in 60’s Beatlemania!
I was never lucky enough to see the Beatles together in concert, but if I had, I’m certain I would be one of those screaming, crying girls. Every now and then, I watch them on youtube, so I can reminisce. Check out my Pinterest board here “Gettin’ My Beatles Fix.”
Ringo was my favorite …
This photo of him makes my heart go pitter-pat…seriously….isn’t he cute???? This leads me to a story…
About a year ago, Ringo came to Birmingham (Alabama) in concert…the closest I’d ever get to the Beatles, although it was Ringo’s group…the “All Starr Band.” Of course, I was dead set on going, no matter HOW much it cost! Can you believe “Cheapskate Southern Girl Picker” is saying that??? Yep, it’s true.
I needed someone to go with me. Hubs REALLY wasn’t interested, so I tried my best friend, and she was like….lonnng hesitation on the phone…”uhhh, can’t you get Gary to go with you???”
I mean…COME ON! THIS IS RINGO!! Obviously nobody understood the importance and gravity of the situation. As the big day approached, I was thinking secretly to myself, “Maybe I’ll get to meet Ringo…maybe even shake his hand…touch him once.” Don’t ask me how this was supposed to happen.
The long-awaited hour arrived, and Gary….bless his heart….good-naturedly went. Finally doors were opened to let us eager beavers inside. The usher pointed to the last row. WHAT??? Visualizing good seats from that little auditorium map…is anyone else ever confused by these? But it was true. Resignedly we sat. I was so glad I had binoculars. The place was packed.
The concert began and Ringo bounded in…sigh! Everyone on their feet! The music was exciting with oldies belted out by the other musicians and Ringo…all familiar old songs. Glancing down to see how Gary was reacting, I was astonished to see him dozing! And would you believe he SLEPT through it all??? I’m talking LOUD rock music here!
But I had the time of my life! I finally got to see the real Ringo. He actually taps his foot and walks around just like I do! But did I take a photo? Nah, he would have been a speck, but in case you’re wondering, this is how he looked….
At my age, I don’t do rock concerts anymore. Not that I ever went to that many….but with Ringo, I’ll make an exception!
So what about the hottest yard sale buy? Buying for resale is my game, but I couldn’t possibly ever sell this. Ironically it’s sitting on the floor on hubs’ side of the bed. Unfortunately, it doesn’t go with the rest of my decor…LOL, but one of these days….
Did you ever see the Beatles? Leave me a comment! I would love to hear your story! Let’s reminisce together!

This isn’t a yard sale find but I still have my charm bracelet I had as a child and one of the charms is Ringo. I’m with you, I loved the Beatles. Who I liked the best would depend on my mood.
Florence says
Awww, I would love to see your bracelet! I still have my old charm bracelets too…

I’m also a Beatles fan Florence. How can you not love the mop tops! I loved them when I was young, and then rediscovered them when one of my kids became a fan. I have a newfound respect and appreciation for their music.
Florence says
Yes, my favorite period of theirs was the early years. I loved them then and still do. You’re right, how could you not?
Thanks for commenting!

Florence, I was just a little too young to get in on the early Beatles (being born in 1960), but of all of them I loved Paul McCartney best. Probably because his band Wings was around when I started getting into rock and roll. I still like his music, especially the early Beatles stuff! When Ed and I went to Vegas on a business trip of his, we got to see the Cirque de Soleil show called Love – all the early Beatles tunes! It was fabulous and I’d go see it again if I could. You would love it!
Florence says
Yes I loved Paul too…he was a pretty close 2nd! I loved Wings too! I almost went to one of his concerts, but when I saw how much the tickets were, I couldn’t do it. I would love to see Cirque de Soleil, especially the Beatles’ one!
Becky Denton says
I guess the “Cheapsake Southern Girl Picker” kicked in when seeing how much the tickets cost! 🙂 😉
Florence says
Absolutely Becky! I couldn’t see paying upwards of $800 to be close enough to see him!

Always loved them…. Paul, most of all. Did finally get to see him in person several (read — quite a few) years ago with Wings. A true highlight!

Ohhh, I’m soooo jealous!!! I still regret not going when I had the chance. Maybe I’ll still get to if he ever comes near here again.

Fabulous years sale item and I completely laughed at your story! I cannot believe you had to drag your hubby there. My hubby is the biggest Beatles fan ever (I’ve always been more of a Stones fan and consider the Beatles “easy listening”… ;-)). We’re going with our adult kids to see McCartney in August! I’ve seen Ringo a few times and what I love best about his shows is how he brings so many surprise guests up. Last show he had Edgar Winter who was amazing. Fun post! Visiting from Blogging Fifty… 🙂

(ugh… auto correct… that’s supposed to say ‘yard’ sale)
Florence says
Thank you Lory! Yes I did have to drag him. The Beatles weren’t his generation & today when I listen to them, I try not to subject him to it…LOL, which is hard b/c we’re together most of the time. A few years ago, he gave me a CD set for Christmas…Beatles at the BBC. I only listen to it when I’m driving to the hair salon b/c he doesn’t go with me there. He says “Don’t you ever get tired of listening to that?” And I’m like, “NO! I don’t ever get to HEAR it!” So where are y’all going to see Paul?

This is such a fun post, Florence. It’s amazing how music can transport us to another time. I inherited a love of the Beatles from my Mom. It was her favorite music to clean house to, lol and she played all of their albums over and over again. I still remember all of the lyrics and Paul is my favorite 😉
Florence says
Thanks Cecilia! I used to clean house to their records too! Thanks for your comment!

Thanks Katrin for your kind words!

That poster is a really amazing find! I love the Beatles too and know so many of their songs by heart. I was quite young when they are really big but my older brother and sister listened to them so I did too. One of the greatest groups ever, if not the greatest. So glad you got to see Ringo. Thanks so much for sharing at Vintage Charm.
Florence says
Thank you Tuula! They were an amazing group! And they still haven’t lost their popularity!

Florence, I would have went with you! I love the Beatles, their songs are the best! I cannot imagine living in the time they were sweeping the world with their talents. I would have been a screaming girl too!
This piece is just priceless, I hope you find a place to hang it in your home, even if it’s in a closet – you deserve to enjoy this find! Love it!
Florence says
Oh another Beatles fan!! Wish you had been around to go with me b/c hubby definitely wan’t too enthusiastic. LOL. In fact, the only thing he said was he faintly remembered hearing “Yellow Submarine” before. And yes I wish I could find a good place to hang that picture around here!
