Camped by the beautiful shores of West Point Lake near LaGrange, Georgia, no trip could ever be complete without checking out the local sites…mainly Salvation Army and Goodwill!
Grand Southern mansions abound, but my sights were set on several weekly visits to Salvation Army, Goodwill, a local salvage shop, and whatever estate sales I could find, LOL.
With the lake as a backdrop, and an old picnic table and the back of the plastic tablecloth as my setup, here are the first wonderful finds!

These are in pretty good shape, but I’ll give them a bit of a polish.

Hi Florence,
Hard to pick a favorite! Anything with poodles is wonderful. Love the train case. You don’t see them in that condition and with the price you paid you can’t go wrong.
I like the fishing note cards too. Not sure if anyone would use them, but I’d buy them.

Thanks and good to hear from you Linzey! I thought the fly fishing cards were unusual also.
My favorite is the sewing box. It would be
Hard to turn down. Never saw one like that before.
Dean, you left a comment! That’s the first time you’ve done that! It’s great. Yes there are sewing baskets like this out there. I’ve just never seen one with a poodle on it before, or one with the innards as intact.
I must be trendy because I have 4 of the above items. I had that blue traincase in olive green, had the entire set of matching luggage as a high school graduation present. I inherited that collander and rolling pin from my mother’s kitchen, and have that same little brown wooden wall shelf that displays little knick knacks. Love the poodles!
Well, isn’t that a small world Ellen? I had never seen the little knick knack shelf before. I thought it was kind of cool, and it’ll be even better painted.
Florence, not all fly fishers are men! Don’t limit your buyers like that. You know better than that…just kidding. I really enjoy your posts. Keep them coming.
You’re so right Teri! I guess I’ve just never SEEN a female fly fisherwoman. I’m glad you like the blog! It warms my heart.
Girrrrllll!! What a haul! Oh my! The poodle items! Swoon! And girrrrl….. I’m a little less than an hour from LaGrange so spill please. Would you email me the names and locations/towns of those stores? I don’t have luck anywhere close to that, items or prices (gasp!), here. It also looks like I need to follow your lead and venture away from home for good estate sales, although Georgia and parts of Alabama are an hour ahead. Makes it harder.
Let me know if you’re ever in the general area again. I’d love to get together.
Of course I’ll email those to you Wanda! I forgot that you were so close by too. It would be great to see you! We thought about going over to see Auburn & the famous tree.
Those are some great finds. I adore the first train case
I had a thrift store trying to sell me one similar for 14.00 and I passed.
$14 is a bit high even for a thrift store! I would have passed too.
Great haul Florence. My favorite is the Paris Poodle Train Case. Glad you snapped it up (I would have too).
Thanks Sharon! Good to hear from you!
I love these posts Florence, they bring back so many memories, since we had so many of these items in our house growing up. Thanks for sharing!
So glad you enjoyed it Kim! Thanks for stopping by.
Florence so many of these items bought back memories. I had one of those colanders. And I remember my mom used to have the suitcase for her odds and ends. And I still have lots of those natural trivets. You always find such cool things in your travels.
Well thank you Mary! Vintage is the name of my game!
I always enjoy your vintage finds. My favorite this time around is the wooden shelf. I can’t wait to see what you do with it.
Hi Debra! So good to hear from you! I hope you’re doing well. I miss you in Blogland! Thanks for your sweet comment. I’m so glad to know you enjoy the posts! I’m a little behind on them, LOL. Too much on my plate.
