Hello Friends!
Today I’m sharing with you my favorite weekend finds getting my thrift store fix! You would think I could make more frequent visits to the thrift store since I live down the street from one, but I can’t….LOL. All it takes is one look at all my accumulated junk and the decision is clear. BUT sometimes I need a fix!
I didn’t find too much stuff though….just a few fun finds. I’ve never seen one of the thrift stores I went to soo empty…several totally empty shelves! So I drove across town to another favorite store, and found a few more items.
Thrift Store Finds~
From the empty Salvation Army….
Thrift Store 1
Just the sum total of 3 lampshades~
I’m always looking for lampshades hoping to find the right size for 3 lamps I could sell if only I had the right shades for them. (I’m getting quite a collection because most of the ones I bring home aren’t quite right.) The largest white one is a little bit dirty, but I plan to glue doilies over the spots, turning it into my favorite shabby chic style.
The two smaller shades….99¢/each. The larger: $2.99.
Thrift Store 2~
The thrift store across town, which usually has real junky junk, yielded better finds.
I always grab these picnic plate holders if affordable. They always sell in my Etsy shop. Colored set 25¢. Larger set: 99¢. I usually ask about $2/each for them.
I bought this hummingbird feeder for us. I couldn’t believe it was so cheap! And not a thing wrong with it (at least that I’ve seen so far).
Isn’t this bright green colander cheery and cute?? I couldn’t resist buying it. I don’t need it, and it’s not vintage. Not a thing wrong with it! $2.99. I’ll have to figure something out.
This is a nice quality wooden handcrafted pineapple basket. $2.99. I bought it because I thought I might paint it. I’ve seen these painted and they look really pretty, but I like it like it is too. What would you vote for? Paint or not?
This is a hubby purchase….an emergency light. Do we need one? NO! We already have about 10 flashlights, and 3 oil lamps, not to mention umpteen candles. But hubby loves gadgets. Here he is in the store fiddling with this thing….”it’s got candles!” (he announces excitedly). “It’s all there and it all works!” You would think he found a chunk of solid gold! So we come home with another gadget for $1.99. I don’t know what we’re going to do with it.
And the last favorite find from of the day…..a Hardy Boys Mysteries metal lunch box from 1977. It was covered with stickers on both sides, which I spent some hour cleaning off. Let me tell you….cleaning off old gummed stickers ain’t easy either!!
That’s Shaun Cassidy and Parker Stevenson on the front….teen idols from the 70’s. Aren’t they pretty?? Maybe some girl who felt about them like I feel about the Beatles may have to have this!!! Available now.
And yet another thrift store waaay across town yielded only this….
Thrift Store 3~
It’s a bit tacky as is, but the twig wreath is in good shape and well put together. The little bird things can be removed and re-used. I’m planning on re-working the wreath. $3.14
So this sums it up. Hope you like my finds. Which is your favorite?

Hmmm… sorry but the emergency light was my favorite today. LOL.
Isn’t that funny??!! To each his own.
Definitely, paint the pineapple basket, it will be so cute!
Tania
Thanks Tania!
Excellent finds Florence! The pretty green colander would make such a lovely hanging planter. My vote is YES on painting the pineapple basket with a little distressing to make the details pop.
Never thought of using it as a planter, but you’re right….it would make a good one. Thanks for the input on the pineapple basket.
Okay, just looking at the photo of the hummingbird feeder, I do not see how you fill it. Is there a receptacle for the sugar water or do you just pour it in? It still looks interesting though. Good finds.
It goes in the top. Thanks for your comment Teri!
Love the pineapple — I vote don’t paint.
Thank you Penny! I like it as is too.
My favorite find today is the birdhouse and bird details on the wreath. I would also choose to rework the design or repurpose them for some new creation.
I have a collection of lampshades too…trying to find just the right one for my shade-less lamp collection. I finally learned that changing the size of the harp turned the not quite right shades into perfect ones 🙂
I vote for painting the pineapple 🙂
Thank you Mother Deer! I am leaning towards painting the pineapple basket. The wooden bird pieces on the wreath are quite cute on their own, so I’m definitely saving them. It’s just that the wreath itself needs a refresh. I’ll have to try your harp idea on the lamps. Thanks for suggesting it!
Great thrifty finds! I vote paint the pineapple basket. I really like the little birdhouses on the wreath. I think the green collander would make a pretty planter as well. I’m not a big Hardy boys fan, but I do love the Beatles. ????
Thanks Linda! I was never a fan of the Hardy Boys either, but now the Beatles….swoon swoon…LOL. Thanks for your suggestions on the other pieces.
I had a wreath like the one you found – mine was a found one too lol. I took off the bird houses, etc and put them on a larger wreath and added spring flowers for a fun spring wreath for my front door. I reworked the twig wreath into a patriotic one with red geraniums and a cute red, white, and blue ribbon.
I vote for painting the pineapple basket as well. The way it looks now is very drab.
Thank you Colleen for the great suggestions on the wreath! Sounds like you used it to the fullest! I probably will paint the pineapple basket.
Great finds. Everything is so useful.
Marilyn
Thank you Marilyn!
What wonderful treasures, especially that lunch box! The hummingbird feeders I’ve purchased recently have leaked. I need to look for them at thrift stores. ‘Hadn’t thought of that! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
Thank you Marci! The hummingbird feeder was a lucky find, and so was the lunch box.
I love that green colander even thought it’s not vintage. That colour is just so fabulous! I would definitely paint that pineapple basket.
Thank you Tuula! I love that colander too…so bright & cheery! All I have to do now is decide what color on the pineapple basket!!
The green colander is my favorite. It’s just the right color and it’s perfect for our kitchen in our little holiday home down at the coast. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink 😉
I noticed it matched your little chairs & table Michelle! It is the perfect color!
Love the hummingbird feeder! It must be the color! 😉
I know that’s right Kim!
Florence I always love looking at your thrift store finds. It’s like I’m taking a trip down memory lane with you. That lunch box? I had one with the Partridge family. And the pineapple basket? I have one too but mine is in the shape of a heart. Actually, I have to correct that , it fell apart so I just used the hearts as decor.
Thank you Mary! I can just picture the lunch box with the Partridge Family! Appreciate hearing about your memories!
Its always a pleasure to read your posts and see what treasures you have found! That Colander is very cool.
Maria
Thank you Maria! You’re a junkin’ girl after my own heart!
Yes, paint the pineapple carrier! The cool carving will be emphasized if you sort of antique it.
My favorite item is the colander because I can see it as a ceiling light fixture shade. And I like its color.
Interesting finds. Thanks for sharing them!
Thank you Naomi! I love the colander too…great idea about it for a ceiling shade!
Florence, I vote for painting the pineapple basket too. My parents made a similar basket but with bunnies, for me and my siblings for Easter Egg hunting. The colander would make a fun hanging light. You got some great stuff!
Thank you Keri! I appreciate it!
Nice finds, Florence! I racked up at the estate sales/garage sales this past week, as well. I’m thinking I may need to do a post myself to show off what I scored. 😉 I love the hummingbird feeder! I hope you get some hummingbirds from it. We have a plant right outside our kitchen window that has attracted a couple of hummingbirds. They are so fun to watch! Thanks for sharing!
Good to hear from you Amy! I miss our old group! Yes, you should show us your finds! I would love to see them! I did have hummingbirds at that feeder all season. They are fun to watch. We enjoy them too, and are looking forward to their return again. Thanks for coming by!!!
