Hello friends,
Here again with another Ebay/Etsy Sales Recap for October 2017! 39 sales! Very happy about that. Biz is definitely picking up with the holiday season coming on.
Sales in VintageSouthernPicks Etsy shop:
2 rolls vintage contact paper…found in a country farmhouse…sold $22
Solid brass Teacup Display Holder….found in a Tennessee thrift store….sold $28
Beautiful handmade crochet tablecloth…paid $2. Sold for $55. The buyer emailed to tell me that according to tracking, it was delivered, but she didn’t get it. I hate those kinds of cases because usually the buyer expects the seller to do something about it! But she didn’t and it’s the first time in 19 years of online selling that this has ever happened. She assumed someone in her condo community got it by mistake, so she waited on pins and needles hoping the person would be honest, and give her her package. After several weeks, she let me know she got it.
This was a cool Fox Head Letter Opener made in England. Sold for $19.99
Shadowbox-size trio of green frogs…sold for $12,00
Over 100 wooden furniture buttons…found in the same country farmhouse….sold for $9.50 with free shipping
Set of 4 glass knobs….sold to someone in Canada for $17.50
Vintage glass hypodermic syringe…sold for $15.00
Vintage hand fan…sold for $12.50
Fresh hickory nuts gathered out of my yard & sold to someone in Japan for $8.50. They paid over $34 for shipping. I had some concerns about whether these would clear Customs, but I took a chance and sent them anyway.
Vintage Oil Lantern…sold for $23.00
Vintage Pan Am dishes….sold for $12.00
Vintage plaid check Sunbonnet and Apron…sold for $22. I was surprised it sold this time of year.
Vintage red plaid tam for men…sold for $32.00 (I believe I paid $2)
Vintage plaid tam for men #2…sold for $32
Vintage Quilt top…sold for $22. I bought a big box of quilt tops, fabric remnants, and pieces of quilts at an estate sale for $8. This was one of the prettier quilt tops. The others really aren’t very attractive, and they’ve been slow sellers. I have sold several things out of the box though, and made back all my $8, and then some.
A gal was buying this Theodore Roosevelt Paper Doll booklet for her husband…sold for $7.00 Go figure.
Vintage brass padlock…only about an inch long…sold for $8.50
Starbella yarn…sold for $8.00
Vintage Tea Infuser…sold for $10.99
Sewing trims….sold for $12.00. In my opinion, these were worth more, but you have to keep your prices in line with what other people are asking.
Unopened White Shoulders perfume….sold for $20.00. This was a sister birthday gift. The buyer emailed me after the sale to say she gave me the wrong address even though her sister had moved some time ago. Nothing I could do about it, of course. I told her that people sometimes won’t return items not meant for them, which is true. I never heard back from her, and I don’t ask. It just opens a can of worms if you do.
Christmas Heart plate…sold for $16.00. I’m not sure this was vintage. Someone gave it to me, and I wanted to try selling it, so I put it in my Etsy shop.
Over 4 yds Christmas Western fabric…sold for $39.90
Sales in SquareDanceNWestern Etsy shop:
The next 4 items were bought by a local theatre company.
Darling ruffled white Square Dance blouse trimmed in red rick rack…sold for $15
Solid green ruffled Square Dance blouse…sold for $20.00
Green Square Dance dress trimmed in white and pink lace…sold for $28.00.
TIP: It’s much harder to sell dresses, especially if they’re non-elastic, because these are usually custom-made for an individual. They don’t routinely fit everybody. Size small Square Dance skirts or dresses are also very hard to sell. (I have sold them, but they take much longer.) Most in the Square Dance community are…ahem, cough, cough…overweight adults…who haven’t seen a size small in quite some time.
How to recognize a Square Dance dress, blouse, or skirt in a thrift store: think 50’s attire…big full-circle skirts with lots of ruffles and lace. Skirt lengths usually look short. Although they do make longer length skirts. Blouses are ruffled with plenty of flounce, puffed sleeves, and/or lace.
Funny story: We were out-of-town going to a Square dance function and were with our group at a restaurant for lunch. Some lady came up, looked me up and down, and said, “Uh, you know that’s been out of fashion for some time.” And I’m like, “huh?” I guess she thought I felt like dressing 50’s that day. All I needed was some bobby sox & rah-rahs, you know?
Darling red and white Square Dance dress…sold for $30 (this was totally non-elastic)
White Square Dance blouse…sold for $24. A lady calling herself “the blouse collector” bought this. I didn’t know people collected blouses.
I sold this for only $14 because it had a small stain, a small hole, and the elastic was wearing out.
Autumn-themed Square Dance Apron/Overskirt…sold for $22.
Mustard yellow Square Dance petticoat…sold to a gal in Ireland…$25.00
Trivia for the Day: Did you know Square Dancing is done all over the world? The calls are always in English, even if it’s in Japan, for example. We went to several National Square Dance Conventions, where we danced with people from other countries. They couldn’t speak much English, but they knew the Square Dance calls!
Darling ladies’western shirt. It had 4 stains on it, but it was so cute, I listed it anyway, revealing all flaws. Sold for $10
Cute little crinkly cotton black sleeveless top with big ruffle. Could be worn off-shoulder. Sold for $20.
Men’s Western shirt…sold for $18.00
Men’s White Western Shirt…sold for $17.99
Another Men’s Western Shirt with Embroidered Yoke…sold for $14.99. Sold cheap because one of the snaps didn’t work.
Indian Head Western bolo…sold for $14.00
One Ebay sale….my husband sold a Lowell Wrench for $45 (not pictured)
So there you have it for October.

You did quite well this month. Great!
Thanks Fonda!
Awesome! Some of those things didn’t last very long either, did they? And $55 for the brass cup and saucer stand?! These brass stands and easels are baffling to me. I thought to list a fancy brass plate stand last week and decided it was broken. Need to get back into my stash there.
I didn’t know you could get that much for tea strainers. Neither did I know to call them infusers! There’s always something to learn. Just another item to add to the BOLO list. Or… was it the particular style of that one?
I can’t believe that lady had the nerve to say you were out of style. Seems to me it would have been obvious anyway.
Not $55 for the brass teacup stand. $28 for that & $55 for the crochet tablecloth. I can’t believe the lady either. Didn’t know if the tea infuser would sell at that price, but I was glad it did. I’ve seen people turn those into Christmas ornaments.
Duh. I read it right the first time through, then went back to see how much when I commented and picked up the wrong price. Still. $28 is nothing to sneeze at on those!
No it’s nothing to sneeze at. I really thought I was asking too much, but I left it like that to see how it would do over the initial 4 month period. So pleased it sold!
I am glad you do so well. I hope those things I sent you sell one day. I have a number of vintage things that would do well, so over the next few weeks I plan to take pictures and list. I may need to contact you for help 🙂
I haven’t listed those things you sent me yet, but I will. I’ll help you all I can Ellen.
I don’t know how you do it! You are amazing!! I should take a class from you haha! Have you tried selling THAT????
Thanks Lauren! No I haven’t tried that! Ha! I should though, right?
Looks like a good month. I really like the brass tea cup display piece. Love the idea of using the tea infuser to make a Christmas ornament.
Thanks Sharon! I saw the idea on Sadie Seasongoods last year.
your sales reports are an inspiration! thanks so much for sharing, I look forward to it every month! I have recently begun selling on ebay but getting started on Etsy seems like a daunting task…how do you determine what to sell on ebay and what to sell on Etsy?
Thanks Kerry! You’re making my day! Your question is a hard one. I don’t think there’s really a difference. You just have to experiment on the different venues.
Thank you for your generous sharing of items you have sold. Never know what someone else will buy.
I learn so much from your postings.
That’s definitely true…you never know what someone will buy. Thanks for the very kind words! I appreciate it!
I knew those frogs would go quick! Cute!
Thanks Kim! Maybe one day you’ll get you some!
Wow Florence, looks like you’ve had a great month. I love the glass knobs, and the Vintage Tea Infuser.
I can’t believe the woman said anything. Didn’t her mother teach her that if you don’t have something nice to say, than don’t say anything.
Haha, I know. I couldn’t believe she made such a point of saying something either. Thanks for your comment!
OMG on the nuts story. I wonder why they bought them??? I had to LOL and tell my husband how you PICKED THEM UP IN YOUR YARD!!! That is classic!
I love seeing all the square dance stuff you sell. My parents were avid square dancers for 30 years and my mom made all their clothes.
I wondered why they bought them…possibly to eat. I can’t believe they would spend that much to ship them just for decor, but who knows? Interesting about your parents being square dancers! I loved square dancing, but had to quit.
Wow, people really do love those Western shirts and hickory nuts???? I would never have expected that. I would have bought the plaid tams though. They both look very like our hunting and dress Sinclair and Leslie tartans.
Thanks Michelle! Are you Scottish in background? Sounds like you must be.
We are. Shaun is half Scottish, half Irish and I’m half German, half Scottish but we were both born in South Africa 😉
That’s interesting Michelle! Another interesting fact about you!
Hickory nuts, really? That is incredible. I am always left with my mouth opened at your recaps.
Yes it’s true Mary.
You did good, Florence! I can’t believe all those square dance shirts and dresses go but I do remember being whipped while 60+ year olds were still dancing and I was fading {in my mid-20’s, no less. I WAS in college F/T plus working 30+ hrs. and working another 30+ hours in a training room ~ my excuse!!!}. Might have to get back into square dancing as it sure was fun!!! Pinned several pics, too. 🙂
Thanks Barb! So you’re a former square dancer too? It was such a fun activity! I really miss it sometimes.
Great sales! I love the hand fan and the contact paper. So pretty. And that’s so interesting that square dance calls are always in English. I love the fun facts you throw into your posts. I always learn something new!
Thanks Amy! I appreciate the kind & encouraging comments.
Great little collection of items. I’m not surprised that they all sold. There are some real interesting vintage treasures among them, but my favourites have got to be that brass teacup holder and a couple of those square dance skirts! Do you ever regret letting go of some of the treasures you find, Florence?
No, I don’t really regret letting go of anything that I can think of. Just trying to downsize along & I’m delighted to sell off my Square Dance stuff. The other things I sell are mostly things I’ve bought to sell. I keep very little.
Florence, you had a great month! So cool to see what sells, and this is quite a variety! That contact paper is really pretty and I love the vintage tea infuser. And those square dancing outfits are so cool. My parents used to belong to a club and my grandparents would go dancing most weekends. One of my favorite things to do was sit with my Gran while she got all dressed up to go.
Everyone love the contact paper! So you have Square Dancing in your history? That’s so interesting. You & Bruce ought to give it a try yourselves…you would love it.
Wow, so many sales! Some of the stuff I honestly can’t believe people would even buy lol Shows how little I know, right? Glad you had such a good month! Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm! xo Kathleen|Our Hopeful Home
Haha, I know it’s true. I’m ALWAYS surprised at what people will buy too. Thanks for dropping by Kathleen.
Florence, it looks like October was a fantastic month for sells. Again it’s always interesting to see what sells.
Thanks Keri! Appreciate your sweet comment!
