And Then There’s What WON’T Sell

September 24, 2017 by Florence 50 Comments

And then there’s what won’t sell…and I have a ton of those! In fact, we all do, don’t we? Any of us that have shops or booths can probably relate to this topic! Any of us online or “B & M” (brick & mortar) sellers…those that have antique booths.

And if you’re new here, “Vintage Southern Picks” is also my Etsy shop, with over 1100 sales, and over 1300 on Ebay, but in this business, you can buy a bomb sometimes. We all know it’s true.

If you’d like to look, I’ll refer you to 2 of my previous posts on what sells for me.

Etsy Sales for August 2017

Etsy/Ebay Sales for July 2017

No matter what we do to get that bomb to go….

  • Raise the price
  • Lower the price
  • Have a sale
  • Let it “rest” awhile in the stash, then bring it out again
  • Refurbish it a little
  • Take fresh pictures, different angles….whatever….and it still won’t sell.

I’ve done it all.

My 3 categories….

  • Totally given up and it’s going to a yard sale
  • Try again with new pictures
  • I’m asking YOU

Herewith are my collection of bombs…

  1. I think this vintage hammered aluminum tray and glass insert is so cute! I don’t know why it won’t sell! A bit of trivia: Did you know this type of aluminum from the 40’s-50’s era is called “poor man’s silver”?

Renewed: 5x

Next Step: Re-photo & lower price AGAIN.

aluminum-condiment-dish

2. Well, it just won’t go. Pottery ash tray, made in Italy. You think it’s because people aren’t smoking as much? If so, that’s a good thing.

Renewed 5x.

Next Step: Garage sale

ash-tray

3. This is a piece of obsolete camera equipment. I thought camera collectors might go for it, but so far….not.

Renewed 2x

Next Step: I’ll probably try it again.

vintage-autoknips

4. Decorative Bird Plates, or any decorative plates….are usually dead in the water, even if it’s Elvis, Gone with the Wind, Hummels, you name it. I see them sitting untouched all the time at estate sales.

Renewed 0x (not worth it again)

Next Step: Garage sale

decorative-bird-plate

5. Not a smart purchase on my part. Renewed 3x. But I might give it another go. It is mid-century modern, and brass IS making a comeback.

Next Step: Maybe one more time.

brass-wall-fan

6. Personally, I think these vintage Salt and Pepper Shakers, made in Japan, are adorable, but they have a lot of paint wear. So I’m undecided.

Thoughts? Renewed 3x

Next Step: ?

carrot-salt-and-pepper

7. I love old dresser boxes! The picture on top is in great shape, but the mirror inside has silvering issues and the inside has no lining and is bare wood. I had another of these a while back that took a long time to sell, but I had refurbished the inside.

Renewed 4x

Next Step: ?

vintage-cedar-dresser-box

8. Here are the clown bottles again! Friends, remember these from a Mystery Items post? Yep, it’s true! They just won’t go.

It would help if I knew exactly what they are, but I don’t. I’ve given up on these, and they’re so cute, aren’t they?

Renewed 2x

Next Step: Garage Sale

clown-bottles

9. Shaking my head over this…I’ve sold many other patterns, and embroidery thread, so I know people still embroider. This has me totally puzzled! It’s a cute pattern. Why won’t it sell??? Sigh. Renewed 4x

Next Step: ?

floral-cross-stitch-pattern

10. This little gal is even collectible, but she refuses to go! (Dakin Dreamer doll) She’s not in great shape. Renewed 4x

Next Step: Garage Sale

dakin-dream-doll

11. I love this one too! I think if it were seen in person, like a booth, it would go, but apparently I’m not capturing its charm. Renewed 4x

Next Step: ?

glad-you-visited-wooden-sign

12. Not really a smart purchase either…This really looks kind of blah in this photo. I’ve already freshened it up with gold paint.

Renewed 2x

Next Step: I think garage sale.

gold-candelabra

13. Another cross stitch…yawn…

Renewed 3x

Next Step: Garage sale

grandfather-cross-stitch

14. Frankly, I don’t know why anyone WOULD want these, but people can surprise you. Did you know these are still redeemable?

Renewed 1x

Next Step: Garage sale

green-stamps-booklets

15. This should have been a Mystery item…do you know what it is? (Tell me in the comments if you knew immediately). But I won’t keep you in suspense. It’s a vintage hair iron…what ladies curled their hair with before Lady Clairol. It won’t sell….not even to a beauty salon for their “museum exhibit.”

Renewed 2x

Next Step: Garage sale

vintage-hair-iron

16. These didn’t sell even at Christmas, and they’re unopened in the package! I guess there are too many Hot Wheels out there.

Renewed 3x

Next Step: I’ll try once more.

hot-wheels

17. Kangaroo Tea Towel from Australia…yes it could use a new photo, but tea towels come out of the woodwork on Etsy. There are like 250 pages of tea towels, so the chances of this selling…well, you get the idea…although I usually advise not to let the excesses hold you back from listing.

Renewed 4x & it’s resting

Next Step: ?

kangaroo-tea-towel-from-austrailia

18. This is Madame Alexander’s First Lady Doll…Frances Cleveland. Beautiful condition. I’ve had her on Ebay & Etsy, and she will not sell. I can’t understand it.

Renewed 5x

Next Step: I’m not sure, but not garage sale.

madame-alexander-first-lady-frances-cleveland-doll

19. This is another puzzle. It’s Mid-Century-Modern; it’s Melamine; it’s practical; it should be hot. Is it ugly???? Why won’t it sell?

Renewed 5x

Next Step: Probably Garage Sale, and I have 2 of these!

mid-century-modern-melamine-tray

20. Another total puzzle…there are also a ton of these on Etsy.

Renewed 3x

Next Step: I’ll re-photo & try it again. Not ready to garage sale this yet.

vintage-mirror-tray

21. A vintage slag glass dish and I’ve sold a lot of slag glass, but I don’t think this is a popular color.

Renewed 7x

Next Step: I’m tired…definitely Garage Sale

slag-glass-dish

22.  This is a “Play n Go” rhino toy…it moves by battery when you press buttons on the heart controller.

I guess it’s not sophisticated enough maybe? It only goes backwards & forwards. It doesn’t fly in the air, do back flips, play music and talk. 😀

Renewed 0x. It had very little interest. Only viewed 7x in 4 months, which is pretty low.

toddler-pig-toy

23. These are house design quilt blocks to embroider. I think “blah and boring” just about covers it. (please forgive me if I’m stepping on anyone’s toes here…I usually do at least once when I’m giving opinions…LOL)

Renewed 2x

Next Step: Buut might try again.

quilt-blocks-to-embroider

24. Genuine Vintage Pan Am Eye Cover….but it won’t sell. Doesn’t help that the elastic is stretched out either.

Renewed 0x

Next Step: Try again & put some vintage Pan Am Playing Cards with it.

pan-am-eye-cover

25. A Rag Doll Sewing Pattern…adorable. Dating from the 40’s. But it doesn’t show up well because it’s black and white. At least…that’s my theory.

Renewed 3x

Next Step: Probably garage sale this.

rag-doll-sewing-pattern

26. Vintage Ricky Nelson 45 record oughta sell, dontcha think? But he doesn’t. Maybe people don’t have a way to play 45’s anymore. I can hear it now…what IS a 45?

Renewed 3x

Next Step: Might give ole Ricky another chance.

rick-nelson-45-record

27. This is a fascinating book…on the history of vintage song music, and it’s a First Edition!!

Renewed: 2x

Next Step: Garage Sale

i-hear-america-singing-book

28. Would you believe Waterford? Not even at Valentine’s or Christmas! And I thought this was such a clever way to photograph it too.

Renewed: 4x

Next Step: Definitely NOT Garage Sale. I’ll probably re-photo & try again.

waterford-number-one

29. Wilton Teddy Bear cake pan….Favorited lots of times, and unused!

Renewed 8x

Next Step: Garage Sale

wilton-bear-cake-pan

30. I thought this vintage children’s piano music would be appealing…for repurposing if nothing else.

Renewed 3x

Next Step: Probably try again.

collection-of-kids-music-books

31.  This is a beautiful vintage beaded evening bag, but apparently, I’m not capturing its true beauty. It just comes out looking dirty in photos. Very disappointing too. I think it’s lovely.

Renewed 6x

Next Step: ?vintage-beaded-purse

32. Vintage scarves are nearly impossible to sell…UNLESS you’re selling a whole bunch in a lot. But even this lot didn’t go. In my whole sales career, I’ve probably sold only 3 single scarves. Not good odds.

vintage-scarves

Would you believe there’s more? Oh yes! But in the next post…

Etsy Sales for August 2017

September 10, 2017 by Florence 55 Comments

Hello friends,

Time for the monthly recap of Etsy sales for August 2017. It’s been a great month with 38 sales! I don’t remember ever seeing this many sales in August, but September is off to a slow start. So let’s get this ball rolling! Be prepared for lots of photos!

Etsy Sales August 2017

Brass 5-light candelabrum…sold for $30

brass-5-light-candelabrum

Licensed NFL Fabric…1 yard. Sold for $8.00

nfl-fabric

Seersucker daisy fabric, 2.5 yards, found at a thrift store…Sold for $11.00

daisy-seersucker-fabric

1 yard pink floral fabric…sold for $6.00

1-yd-pink-fabric

Over 4 yards pink floral fabric…sold for $18.00

Vintage 60’s wedding dress sewing pattern…sold for $14.00

vintage-60s-wedding-gown-sewing-pattern

This 3-piece set of vintage dresser scarves took forever to sell…sold for $12.00. I renewed them 6x before they sold, so at 20¢/4 months, that not only adds up, but it shows these are not very good for resale.

vintage-dresser-scarves

Vintage 1939 Methodist Hymnal…sold for $10.00. These always sell, when I can find them. I have one right now that came from a smoker’s home, so the book is totally permeated with a stale smoke smell. I’ve tried putting it in the sun. I’ve tried closing it up in a zip lock bag and baking soda, but the smoke smell persists. If anyone has another idea for getting rid of the smell, I would love to hear it.

vintage-methodist-hymnal

I was surprised at how quickly this sold considering how many I saw on Etsy already. This was one of the very few picks I brought home from Favorite Junking Finds Shelby Shores. It had the key, but so did several others. Sold for $16.00, which may sound cheap, but with competition, your prices have to be comparable or a little under to sell.

galvanized-check-cash-box

Mid-Century-Mod Minimalist Brass Candlestick…Sold for $19.00. I found this at the same smoker’s home, so luckily, it doesn’t pick up the smell. My inclination would be NOT to price this near $20, but I’ve found it’s important to add value by putting a higher price on items. It really does help them sell. It’s psychology. If it’s priced too cheaply, people think it’s cheap and tend not to buy. I have to fight the impulse to price things at what I would pay.

mid-century-modern-minimalist-brass-candlestick

Package of Needle Felted Wool…Sold for $7.60, which included free shipping. These were bought with the item below, so luckily, it hardly added any weight at all to the package.

package-felt-wool

It’s always a surprise to me that these common paper plate holders sell, but they do. Sold for $11.00. I usually price these at around $2/each. Most sellers price them higher.

bamboo-paper-plate-holders

I found this large jewelry chest at an antique shop last Christmas season. It was $10, and the maximum I would pay, but I rationalized that it was in nice shape. I intended to paint it, but decided to try it as is first, and it sold! $40.00

large-jewelry-chest

I found these pretty little Florentine landscape scenes at a thrift store a while back. Made in Italy. Sold for $20.00

small-florentine-paintings

Perhaps you remember this Hardy Boys vintage 70’s metal lunch box from Favorite Weekend Finds…Getting my Thrift Store Fix? Unfortunately, It didn’t have the thermos, which adds more value. Sold $35.00

vintage-70s-hardy-boys-lunch-box

I have a good bit of crochet thread. I’m pricing it all to sell quickly, but it’s still not selling quickly. Bummer. Sold for $5.00

crochet-thread-lot

Brass Reindeer and Sleigh…Sold for $33.00 I believe I paid $8 for this set from an estate sale.

brass-reindeer-and-sleigh

Set of 6 aluminum jello molds…Sold for $14.00

6-jello-molds

Vintage Metal File Box from Favorite Weekend Finds Montevallo…sold for $24.00

vintage-green-file-box

Pretty straw handbag…kind of unusual, and made in Italy. Found this a couple of years ago at a yard sale, used it myself for a while, then decided to sell it. Sold for $25.00

straw-handbag-made-in-italy

Vintage makeup mirrors always sell…eventually. Sold for $30.00. It didn’t work quite right, so hubby had to take it all apart and fix it. We paid $1 for it.

vintage-makeup-mirror

Pretty little vintage Avon bottle…sold for $8.99

vintage-avon-perfume-bottle

This was a faux tin “ceiling” tile I found at a thrift store, and dry-brushed. Sold for $19.00

tin-tile

A recent find from Favorite Junking Finds in Greenback Tennessee, that sold very quickly. Bought for $5. Sold for $23.00

roses-picture

I sold these wooden furniture finials twice, but they were returned because the person on the other end couldn’t pick them up. So I sold them again and they were gone very quickly. Sold for $35.00

wooden-furniture-finials

I found a vintage “Peanuts” flat sheet and 2 pillowcases at a thrift store in Mississippi. They looked a little faded. I revealed the less-than-perfect condition in the description, but they still sold, even though there were a ton of different varieties of Peanuts’ sheets on Etsy. Sold for $38.00

peanuts-sheet-and-2-pillowcases

This was a lovely vintage acrylic box purse I found also at Favorite Weekend Finds Montevallo for $2. I sold this to a young gal in Singapore for $40.00

vintage-white-acrylic-handbag

A variety of mixed belt buckles, which I figured someone would use to make jewelry, but no, she told me she used them on her belts. You just never know! Sold for $15.00

western-belt-buckles

Vintage Pennsylvania tray…this is the first one of these I’ve sold. I’ve seen others at thrift stores and passed, but I may start picking them up now. It was only 25¢ so it was a good risk. LOL. Sold for $9.50

vintage-pennsylvania-tray

3 Self-releasing cake pans I found at a yard sale a while back. The only reason I bought them was to try making a tiered tray, but I decided to see if they would sell first. And they did at $12.00. Have you ever seen this type of cake pan? I haven’t. You twirl the bar in the bottom and it loosens the cake from the pan. That way, not as much chance of the cake breaking up.

3-self-releasing-cake-pans

Here’s a vintage “CUTTER” quilt, which means it’s mainly for people who use it for crafts. Bought for $1 at an estate sale out in the country, it was in baaaaad shape. Another lady and I were talking about just how bad. I almost didn’t get it. Sold for $20. All that to say…vintage patchwork quilts, not in the best of condition, are still salable. Just be sure to show all the flaws.

cutter-quilt

And then I made several sales in my other shop…SquareDanceNWestern….

I have 12 of these Red Western Bandanas exactly alike…Sold the first one for $12.00

red-western-bandana

Pair of Scarf Rings…Sold for $9.00

two-scarf-rings

Western Bolo, personalized with the letter “G.” Sold for $20.00

mens-g-bolo

Fancy Tony Lama western belt…Sold for $29.00

tony-lama-western-belt

This is a unique Western bolo made out of safety pins. Can you see them? Sold for $17.50

gold-safety-pin-bolo

Pair of men’s sharp-looking Western collar tips…Sold for $18.00

pair-collar-tips

A lavender crinoline or petticoat…sold for $25.00

lavender-petticoat

Funny story about the Square Dance dresses I have for sale….Someone contacted me about a particular dress they were interested in buying, but were concerned about the sleeves fitting because “I’m a guy,” he says. I figured he needed it for a special dance where the guys dressed as girls and vice versa. I measured the sleeve for him. Thus began a whole discussion about Square Dancing and square dance clothes. Long story short…he was a cross-dresser, and sent me a picture of himself in a dress, wig, and heels. Did he buy? No!

In the online selling world, you get all kinds. I’ve sold to theater companies, Disney’s Pixar, professionals like judges and doctors…maybe even some celebrities. Oh if only it was Ringo Starr (swoon), or Paul McCartney (double-swoon)!! Except I would probably never know it.

etsy-sales-for-august-2017-pin

Be sure and check the Etsy sales from my friend, Wanda’s shop, “Just Vintage 2.” She carries a variety of vintage items from estate sales she conducts on the side. You will enjoy all her unusual stuff.

Hope you stuck with me till the end! Which was your favorite? I love to hear what you think!

Etsy and Ebay Sales for July 2017

August 6, 2017 by Florence 32 Comments

What sells for the other guy is totally fascinating to me, so here are my Etsy and Ebay sales for July 2017. All us sellers love to get the scoop of what’s selling, but some sellers sure won’t tell you! Here are my 32 sales and what I sold them for!

Online Sales July 2017

Ebay Sales~

The 1 Ebay sale: Clinique compact…a gift & not my colors. Sold for $8 to a girl from Italy.

Etsy Sales~

1938 “Sermon on the Mount” by Emmet Fox…sold $12. This was a funny purchase. I thought hubby bought it, and he thought I bought it. Somehow it ended up in my sack.

Men’s Vintage “Looper’s” Western Belt…Sold for $18.00western-belt

Vintage 60’s “My Book House.” These take forever to sell, but I got a set of 11 volumes about a year ago for a total of 66¢. Sold $15.00

60s-my-book-house

Here’s the pineapple basket! Remember this from Favorite Weekend Finds…Getting my Thrift Store Fix post? And everybody said to paint it? I’ve found that leaving things as they are usually sells better for me. Then if it doesn’t sell as is, THEN I’ll paint it. Sold for $17.50. (probably could have gotten more, but I try to price reasonably so I don’t have to sit on it so long.)

wooden-pineapple-basket

6 Spools of Crochet Thread….sold for $6.00 (pricing cheap so I can get rid of it.)

pink-crochet-thread

I bought this at a Re-store for $3 about a year ago. It got 3 coats of chalk paint and wax because it was rusty and the paint was chipping…and not in a pretty way. I wasn’t sure what it was either. So I did a search on Etsy, and found only one exactly like it (which had sold in the $40 range), so I priced and sold mine (a potato bin) at $42. This is pretty big….larger than I like to ship. Large things require lots of packing and big boxes, which costs more, as you can imagine. As soon as it was listed, a customer from a Western state, was “very interested,” but wanted me to go down on shipping. I couldn’t do it without eating some of the costs, so I didn’t. I’m going to be writing a post soon about shipping. People have NO idea how high shipping costs are, or what goes into shipping prices. I guess they think we’re just setting them high for the heck of it.

vintage-metal-potato-bin

Pretty little vintage plate I’ve had a while…make that FOREVER. Sold for $10.00

pretty-plate

Vintage rabbit dish, made in England, but chipped. This was from the Favorite Junking Finds Weekend Sylacauga post. Sold for $15.75. Priced low to account for the flaw. (People do buy chipped and cracked.)

rabbit-ring-dish

Bought at a Thrift Store when I was out of town. I thought it was cute and liked the rustic look. Sold quickly for $18.00

rustic-napkin-holder

Another Thrift Store purchase….shabby chic switch plates. I didn’t have to do anything to them. Yay!! Sold for $18.00

shabby-chic-switch-plates

Hard to get rid of this because I liked it too! Vintage 60’s Temptations album with Gordy label (sounded great)…Sold for $15.99. Would like to have priced it higher, but there were several on Etsy already. I actually priced it higher than the others were.

temptations-60s-album

Vintage Trucker’s Belt Buckle (had a lot of wear on it, but it sold) $18.00

trucker-belt-buckle

Vintage 70’s Eagles album with a lot of the classic hits. Sounded great too. Sold for $11.00. Again…a lot of them on Etsy.

vintage 70s eagles lp

Vintage Knitting tote bag in great condition. Not a fan of the fabric, but sold for $32.88

large-vintage-knitting-bag

Vintage cigarette lighter by Storm King…sold for $20.

vintage-cigarette-lighter

One of my favorite recent buys that I haven’t posted yet, and there’s a story behind this….a Vintage Mailbox. Sold within a few days of listing for $36.00. Lots of them on Etsy in this price range.

cool-vintage-mailbox

Vintage Quilt pieces…sold low at $8.00 because a lot were stained.

vintage-quilting-pieces

This surprised me because there are so many on Etsy, but it sold quickly. $10.50

vintage-whisk-broom

Wooden decal…the kind you glue on furniture. Still in package. Sold for $4.50. They weren’t going for much.

wooden-decal

Bought at a Thrift Store a while back, it was in such nice shape….it’s a tie and belt organizer…sold to someone in Spain, I think, for $26.00.

tie-and-belt-coathanger

Vintage creamer from Poland, marked “Wawel.” Sold for $12.32.

wawel-creamer

This was from~ 5 Reasons I Go Picking Out of Town and Favorite Junking Finds…sold for $30.00

vintage-bait-pail

Here’s my first sale at a new Etsy shop I just opened! Called “SquareDanceNWestern,” I am listing my Square Dance clothes and accessories.” Sold for $14.00

western-bandana

That’s it my friends. Hope you stuck with me. I know it’s a lot of photos, but hopefully those who sell online can get some ideas and inspiration. That’s what I’m doing this for.

What Sold on Etsy and Ebay for June 2017

July 2, 2017 by Florence 28 Comments

Since I’m in online sales, I always enjoy seeing what other people in the same biz are doing. I used to have a booth too, but that’s long gone so all I can report on are what sold on Etsy and Ebay for June 2017.

June is typically a slow month with Summer vacations and outside activities. I made a total of 26 sales for both Ebay and Etsy. I seldom list or sell much on Ebay anymore. Most of my sales take place on Etsy. Here they are~

Vintage Wicker Sewing Basket….I was glad to see this go. I’ve had it a good while. Sold $15

Vintage Quilt Top, acquired recently with other quilting items. Sold $20

Isn’t this antique Roseville Pottery Vase exquisite? The picture doesn’t do it justice at all. Sold $110.

A set of unopened recipe cards. Sold $6

A lucky thrift store find that I painted and glazed…Shabby chic ornate picture frame. Sold $40.

A Baby Genius Madame Alexander doll. Sold at Ebay auction for $20.50

I found these at a yard sale about 3 years ago, and I’ve held onto them because I really liked them, but I haven’t used many, so I decided to sell the rest. You can’t keep everything (my motto), and they sold very quickly. Sold $35

I charged extra for elbow grease on these candlesticks…LOL. They were in terrible shape…tarnished and covered with wax drips. It took me a long time to clean them up. And it took me an hour to find them too. Sometimes I hide them from myself! Sold $30.00

This is a lovely little set, I’ve had FOREVER, marked “made in Bavaria” on the bottom, but the hair receiver had a bad chip and messy repair on the side, which, of course, devalued this sweet set. Sold for $34, which included free shipping.

11 Things I Avoid at Thrift Stores, Yard and Estate Sales

April 22, 2017 by Florence 30 Comments

Be aware that I resell many of my vintage finds, so these 11 things I avoid at thrift stores, yard and estate sales may not apply at all to you. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule…but I primarily avoid these items. They either don’t fit my niche or I know they are slow sellers.

Items I Avoid Buying for Resale~

11 Things I avoid buying at thrift stores, yard and estate sales

  • DESIGNER PURSES OR OTHER DESIGNER ITEMS…anything claiming to be Gucci, Coach, Ralph Lauren, Vera Bradley, Michael Kors, and others I steer clear of. Knock-offs abound, and I can’t guarantee it’s the real thing. I tried selling a bunch of watches on Ebay once, including a fake Rolex. And I said it was fake. To “fix” the problem, I took the word “Rolex” out of the title, but had it in the description. I had to take it completely out of the title & description to get Ebay off my back. So be careful buying designer items & selling online unless you can authenticate them.

  • GLASSWARE…clear glassware is dead in the water & almost impossible to sell. Even some Waterford pieces!

  • CLOTHES unless Christmas sweaters. Some people probably do well with clothes. Not my niche.

  • JEWELRY…not to say it’s not a good thing to sell because it can be. Not my niche, although I do have a very small vintage estate jewelry section in my Etsy shop. Those were the good deals I couldn’t pass up!

  • BOOKS…are slow sellers for me. I love them, and sometimes a book or two will sell quickly. A couple of years ago I found 11 volumes of a collectible children’s series called “My Book House.” Can you believe I bought all 11 volumes for 66¢? THAT was a good deal I couldn’t pass up! I’ve sold 3 volumes, but the rest are languishing. Do kids even read books anymore? My granddaughter used to like to read…now she’s glued to her phone.

I’ve read that autographed books can do well, and cookbooks can. But I don’t have the time to look through every book searching for one autographed. I found a signed June Carter Cash cookbook, but it took forever to sell.

**My rule of thumb for books…if it’s still there by the time I arrive, don’t buy it. BUT….this is not always true.

  • HOLIDAY BARBIES, even if untouched in the box. I see them sitting at yard sales all the time. Also toddler toys, baby stuff, board games except Scrabble, Bingo, and others with small playing pieces. Crafters repurpose the playing pieces in various ways, and same goes for Bingo cards.
  • VINTAGE THERMOSES…I found one at a thrift store a couple of years ago and it took FOREVER to sell. No more.

  • VINTAGE WHISKEY BOTTLES

  • BEADS or other craft items unless unopened

  • CHINA….Nothing made in China & nothing with a bar code

  • LADIES VINTAGE ACCESSORIES….HATS, GLOVES, SCARVES….Ladies’ vintage hats were the first thing I started selling, and at that time, dealers grabbed them left and right, no matter what condition they were in. Then prices went up and sales stalled. I see them sitting at estate sales. Gloves and scarves are also dead.

So there you have it….my list of 11 things I avoid at thrift stores, yard, and estate sales. I would be interested in knowing what you think! Do you have any to add to the list?
