I’m a bit behind on sharing vintage hauls lately, so in order to catch up, I’ll share all as one Holiday Vintage Thrift Haul Spree. With everyone else Christmas shopping the last couple of months, I had thrifting on my mind, and even an estate sale in my own neighborhood. I’m very pleased with all the “haul-i-day” finds. Not all are vintage. I get caught up in buying because I like it and plan to sell it. Then I forget it isn’t vintage.
Such is the case with the next 3 items. I’ve been finding lots of shower curtain rings lately, and I buy them if they’re a bit unusual, but $2 a set is the most I’ll pay.
Aren’t these pretty? Bought for $2 and available in my Etsy shop.

Silver Shower Curtain Rings $1.99

I thought these were pretty too.

Another item…not vintage, but pretty. $1.00. Found at the local estate sale.

Bought for $1 at same estate sale and sold. I downloaded the photo from Graphics Fairy to make it look even prettier.

Quite a pretty brass candlestick…I like to sell these as a lot, even if mismatched. Paid $2.

Vintage Needlepoint compact found at same estate sale for $3. Available

Shadowbox shelving unit and the one following were bought together at the estate sale for $10. A lot! And much more than this cheapskate likes to spend, but I was very taken with the items below. I will sell the 2 separately.

These little brass pieces were made in Holland and are collectible. These are about 1-1.5″T.

Also from the estate sale…I buy glass crystals when I see them, both to sell and/or refurbish what I’m selling. Paid $2. See those white cloth things? See a close-up below~

What are they? In the same sack together, but not sure how they are used.

Vintage cassette case (available) found in the trash a few days after the estate sale. Hoping it was full of diamonds, but no such luck. It made me sick that they were also throwing away a beautiful mahogany 4-poster bed, but since we don’t have a truck, we couldn’t get it. I hope someone rescued it. Why don’t people donate? I’ll never understand it.

The next 2 items were found at a local antique shop (The Brass Bear) during Christmas. Paid $1.50. I thought this Filigree Brass Box was a bit unusual. Available.

This pretty piece is marked “Hull Art Pottery.” The seller labeled it “Southern Belle Planter.” There is a bit of paint wear, but I saw 2 others in the same store (different booths) that had much more wear, and theirs were higher. I paid $9 for this. I think I may have made a mistake buying it, but I liked it. We’ll see. Available.

The below is an Anton Pieck box purse, popular in the 70’s. Found at Hoover Salvation Army, it is in surprisingly good condition. Paid $2.99. Available.

Found at the Hoover Salvation Army…this cool retro telephone. Paid $3.99. They make repros from this design, but this is the real McCoy. There are a couple of cracks in the casing base, but I don’t think this is a major flaw.

Found these wicker bells at Lovelady Thrift for $1.99. I totally LOVE them, but should I paint or leave as is? The bow needs to be changed, but even the “fruit” looks pretty good yet.

The next 4 items were found at a new thrift store in Bessemer…the Tupperware dispenser set below. Paid $2.99. Available.

An attractive wooden sconce. Paid 1.99

A Valentine heart wreath, never used…paid $1.99 (keeping)

Ornate Picture Frame…99¢

The last were found at Vapor Thrift Store, which is a higher end spot, and their prices are higher end too. This is definitely off the beaten path for me.
I can’t believe I paid $4.99 for this! Color me insane. The hubby wanted me to get it and I caved. I’ve since polished it, so it looks much nicer. The stem has “thorns” on it, but the bloom doesn’t look very “rose-ish.” What would you call it?
Would you say it’s a candy dish? He thought soap dish, but I don’t see the slightest bit of soap scum on it.

This burlap wreath for $2.99 has definitely seen better days, but I bought it for the metal wreath form.

I bought this Jester Frog Tealight Candle Holder for $4.99 because I sold one exactly like it last year. Available.

Fell in love with this little sheep, but with no label or markings, I know nothing about him. Paid $2.99. Tell me, have you ever seen a sheep with a pig tail…a curlicued copper tail? I mean, I actually googled up sheep tails just to double-check. Sheep tails do not look like pig tails. Just thought you might notice. Available.

Considering how big this Lenox platter is, I was very surprised it was only $4.99. And it is vintage.

A beautiful porcelain spoon rest, made in Italy. Paid $3.99.

Another thing I fell in love with…what I call a “Tealight Tower” and I paid $3.99. I’m going to play with this a while. I might not sell it.

Fell in love with this lead crystal angel too. Found at Homewood Salvation Army on half price day, so I paid $2.50. It’s a keeper.

Lastly, I found these coasters for 99¢. It was the only thing at Vapor Thrift Store that was reasonable. Ha! So I bought them. I need more coasters like I need a hole in the head, but I told myself I will repurpose them. Ha again! They remind me of Spring, and we all need a reminder of Spring, don’t we?

That’s it till next time!
PLEASE PIN ME! Thanks!

The rose thing looks more like a water lily to me.
Interesting about the cassette case. I think I have a nice one in my basement still filled with cassettes. Now I have to go look….
And if you have rock or hard rock cassettes, they’ll sell too. And it does look like a water lily. I have to agree. But what about the thorns?
I always love looking at your finds, Florence…and haul-i-day. I love it!
Haha, thanks Kim! “Haul-i-day” just sprang up out of nowhere.
You found some interesting items. My favorite is the sheep but the tail is kind of odd isn’t it?
Yes it is, but probably not a big deal. Chalk it up to artist privilege I guess.
I have absolutely no idea what those white cloth things are Florence. So intriguing, maybe they sneaked into the packet by accident?
I wondered that too. Thinking they might be a wine glass coaster, but I don’t know.
That would explain the slit. Kinda makes sense. Hopefully for white wine though 😉
Seemed like it came back to me from somewhere in the brain that these things were for wine goblets. Definitely for white wine!
Hi Florence, yes, they are wine glass coasters. I’m guessing the brass thingy is a lotus blossom, I do think they have thorns. Love your “haul”. My favorite is the glass angel. I wouldn’t paint the bells. Baskets are so “in” right now. A new ribbon, and I think they would appeal to the Boho crowd.
I really am glad I discovered your blog. I appreciate your insight on all things vintage. Thanks for sharing…..
Thanks Linzey! Appreciate your kind words! Thanks for the insight on the bells! I probably would have painted them, but I remember another blogger I follow is into boho. Actually I like the way they look now-unpainted. On the brass, I was thinking lotus blossom too, so glad to hear you second it. So glad you discovered my blog too!
the white things are wine coasters-my mom had some–love your site
Thanks so much Rosemary!
“Haul-i-day.” Hehe.
I love the Hoover Salvation Army, but usually only for the clothes – even though the way the light comes in, I’m blinded trying to look on certain sides of the racks. I don’t know what it is, but the “stuff”, if it’s vintage, always feels like something a dealer wasn’t able to sell. I mean, I’m sure I’d buy much of it if I saw it at an estate sale, but not there? It’s a weird, unfounded suspicion. Just a vibe. I don’t necessarily feel that way at other stores. Maybe it’s the way they have it displayed?? Who knows? And if was a dealer with a booth and couldn’t sell it, doesn’t mean it won’t sell online. So…… You go get ’em! I have a suspicious nature sometimes. I need to get over it.
I thought the rose looked like a water lily, too. Maybe the thorns are roots? LOL I kinda agree with Gary. Looks like a soap dish to me. Maybe they just never used it.
I would never have looked twice at the frog jester. And you’ve sold one before! Always something to learn.
Try to stay warm this week. We’re using the warmness of today to take a big trailer load of packed up boxes and some furniture to the storage unit in Auburn and some things to the booth.
Definitely a glare in Hoover Salvation Army…totally agree. Makes it hard to see the clothes. Their stuff, and really, any stuff looks like yard sale rejects to me, but they may be booth rejects too. Oh well, I just keep trying. You never know when the right person is going to come along LOL. It is weird how that is…how location matters. You see it at the thrift store and it doesn’t have a lot of value, but see it at an estate sale…it’s all different. It’s the same thing with online sales really. I may have bought something for 10 cents somewhere, but no one would buy it if I asked 25 cents for it. However, they will buy if you add value by pricing it up some.
You know it’s funny about the frog jester. When I first saw that other one, my exact thought was “this’ll never sell.” But it did. Again you just never know. Hoping this one will. Things are pretty slow right now on Etsy. January used to be good, but the last 2 years, not so much.
The white cloth things are to place the base of stemware in. It’s like a cozy or a built in coaster — although I don’t know why. Wine glasses don’t especially sweat like tumblers, and they wouldn’t scratch surfaces. Probably just for show? The things that you took the crystals off of are bobeches. They sit around the base of a candle and on top of the candle stick. It tries to be elegant, but perhaps they just end up looking gaudy to some.
And, “haul-i-day” … Good one, Florence!!!
Haha, on “haul-i-day” Fonda. It just came to me out of the blue. Thanks for the insight on the bobeches and the coasters. I think you’re right.
Florence,
Wow! You got some fantastic finds!! No, it was not you who said anything about how do I clean!! LOL! It is one neighbor that each and every time she comes over that is what she says. It used to aggravate me and now I just laugh and smile and say “Who cleans?”!!
Thanks for visiting!!
Hugs,
Deb
Deb, Such a pleasure to visit you & your blog! Glad I wasn’t the one who made the gaffe, LOL.
Thanks for the Haul-i-day! Your posts are always a treat!
Thanks Kerry! Your comment just made my day! Glad you enjoy them!
You sure have some great stuff Florence! I love that little needlepoint case and the figurine. I’m always a sucker for crystals so those along with the stemware coasters would be some of my personal favorites!
So glad you like them Lauren! Thanks for coming by to comment.
Hi Florence! I love the sheep even though he does have a pig tail. LOL I stopped by to tell you that you are featured, along with several other Alabama bloggers, HERE: http://www.gwingal.com/2018/01/alabama-bloggers-you-should-be-following/
I love seeing what you’ve purchased because I like similar things.

Thanks for coming by Nikki, and letting me know about your post being out!
Florence, I love that retro phone. It really brings back the memories for sure! I have a lead glass angel almost just like yours. I bought it for my mother-in-law years ago and when she died, it was given to me. I’ve been debating whether to keep it or sell it? Great finds!
I’m really loving the lead crystal angel! I love the good deal I got on it. It’s so pretty, and flawless. In fact, I still have it out! The phone was a real find too. Thanks for dropping in Carol!
I just looked again at that angel and it is exactly like the one I bought for my mother-in-law years ago. I found this in an exclusive, high-end store. It still has a tape with my husband and my name on the bottom of it for us to get. It’s covering the original tag on the bottom and I can’t get the name tag off without ruining everything.
Carol, thanks for checking. I really love this angel. It’s completely flawless. Nice to know it maybe came from a high-end store. There is a tag on the bottom to say it’s made in Japan. Wish it was Germany or something like that!
You found a lot of great things! Thank you for sharing your treasures at Snickerdoodle.
Thank you Sharon!
Great finds, Florence! I love that compact! Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm!
Florence, you got some awesome finds! I really like those curtain rings, they would be great to repurpose. That wooden flower tray is pretty neat too, maybe it’s just a holder for whatever you want to put in it like keys or decorative accessories or jewelry. That’s too funny that the sheep has a piggy tail. I’m sure you’ll find a home for all your wonderful finds.
Hoping these will sell before long. Aren’t those curtain rings cute? Wish I had you over my shoulder to tell me how I should repurpose them!
This is one of my favourite hauls, Florence. There are a lot of pieces in here that I really loved, from those itty bitty pieces from Holland to that embroidered compact! You really do have a great eye for scooping up some real gems!
Thanks Jelica! You’ve made my day! Thanks for dropping in.
I love them all!!! With no exception! I can use them all, some of them with a little personal touch… you know I love to give items something from me! Also I am a little bit jealous you can find so many beautiful things 🙂
Thanks Christina!!! You have such good taste, so it means a lot to me that you like all of them!
