Vintage Picker off limits home tour? Let me explain. I often read that people enjoy seeing behind-the-scenes spaces, and I’m going to show it to you. This is reality people, but be forewarned! While I enjoy reading and drooling over beautiful home decor blogs…well, let’s just say I march to the beat of a different drummer.
For the last 3 months, (ever since my blog began really) I have been stuck in a recliner waiting on broken bones to heal, so my not-so-neat hubby has been caretaker, cook, bottle washer, pet caretaker, and package shipper. He does it all uncomplainingly, and not only takes care of me, but our dog and 2 cats. And does all of my shipping for me while I’m laid up.
While I’m recovering, I sleep, eat, and spend all day right here in this big ole recliner. It’s all arranged just so…and I know it looks a mess, but I know where everything is. That’s why this tour is off limits!
Dubbed “the nest,” I’m surrounded by some of my Etsy inventory, which I struggle to get up and photograph while trying to hold camera and walker.
A Vintage Picker’s Home Tour~
The Foyer~
The foyer holds my beautiful antique German lamp, which I inherited, and cherish. Hubby, who loves lamps, made murmuring noises against it early in our marriage. Because I love and respect him, I always try to give over to his wishes. I told him there was NO WAY I was going to get rid of it!
Dining Room~
What in the heck is this?? THAT, my dear friends, is what my dining room table looks like most of all the time. Catching the garage sale junk treasures as they arrive. My hubby doesn’t complain, bless his heart. You see, he has this tiny problem…he can’t throw anything away.
Dining Room~
You can still see some of my nice furniture somewhere under all the clutter. Speaking of clutter, would you believe I used to be totally OCD about it?? Not anymore since I became a picker.
The dresser was in my booth, and didn’t sell, so I brought it home to use as a sideboard.
Dining Room~
THIS is my real pride and joy and it’s the one thing I do not allow clutter to touch. And just look at that white mirror that somehow appeared! I can’t move it though…I’m holding on for dear life to my walker!
Powder Bath~
Moving on to the powder bath…I can’t show you the whole thing, but I want you to see my framed vintage outhouse postcards…I don’t like the olive green background, but I love the postcards. Outhouses in a powder bath…pretty appropriate, I’d say.
Hall~
I found this unusual brass and copper mirror at an antique exhibition years ago. I call it the “Jester mirror.” I love it…does anyone know the name for this style?
My hubby has a thing for clocks too…we have a grandfather clock, banjo clock, and the rectangular one from Germany. Doesn’t it look nice on the floor??? It’s been parked there for the last 3 years.
Moving on past the Master Bedroom…I actually debated about whether you needed to see the unmade bed, but we’ll pass. I used to be OCD about making it too.
Sunroom~
Now we come to the Sunroom. We’re in here a lot, or were until I created the Nest in the other room.
This little drop leaf side table is a new acquisition. Hubby brought that home one day when he agreed to go to yard sales for me.
We need more furniture like we need a hole in the head.
This is a future project waiting in the wings…you can’t see all the scratches, but it’s a favorite chest. Are you wondering why the drawer is open? Hubby is of the mentality…”why close it when I got to open it all the time?”
Breakfast Room~
This is the breakfast room table. When we moved in 20 years ago, it was one of our few splurges. And the tablecloth on top…I’ve got to show you that sometime. It’s what you call “vintage linen,” which is why I can get away with using what is not only stained, but full of holes too. And yes, I bought it that way. I tell my guests they are getting to eat on the “shabby chic” tablecloth. What can I say? I’m a rule breaker! The colors are perfect. And I love it.
If you haven’t guessed by now, I like things that are different. I fell in love with this pair of funky bar stools. The other one is slightly different.

See, I DO have a picnic basket! In my last post, Top Ten Things I Look for in Yard Sales, I said I didn’t collect them, and I don’t, but this was such a find, I couldn’t pass it up.
Two small guest rooms remain, but I’ll save that and the rest for when I do Part II.
Before I go, isn’t this a cool picture? I found it at a garage sale for $5. I just love all the detail.

Well, I have to see Part Deux now!!! How fun! And thanks for the shout out. I bet you could tie the picnic basket onto the front of your walker and then fill it with all sorts of etsy stuff and then you could hobble around the house with it 🙂 I like your nest too. I don’t have a broken hip and still have an area like that!

Haha! You had me giggling, especially the open drawer and the clock on the floor. My husband is scared to throw anything away. Banana peels on the counter, empty mayonnaise jars in the fridge….. And yes, open drawers and cabinet doors. And *he* used to be the OCD one! And isn’t it funny how time flies? If we leave something in one spot long enough, we don’t even see it any more.
You have some beautiful things! It pays to get out to the sales. We get first choice and don’t have to wait to see if a dealer is going to put it in their booth.
That’s right with the clock…don’t even see it anymore! Yes, can’t wait to get out to the sales again. Sending Gary for me isn’t working…LOL.
