These mostly estate sale finds are from over the last month or two.

I swore off yard sales because they’re mostly either ~

Kids’ toys (where the kids aren’t through playing with them 😀 and practically push you away if you dare to touch)

Clothes

PURE junky junk…and I don’t mean the good kind.  😉

But I broke down and went to a few yard sales a couple of weekends ago (reminding myself again that nothing good can be found there).

However…

Not all yard sales are bad~

Like these~

FREE Dog Treats!

Free Dog Treats

And our Leo loves his treats!

Leo the dog

And next best he loves his toys…so he can TOTALLY kill them.

50¢ each on these. But they won’t last long.

Dog Toys

I’m Going to Keep These~

I almost hate it when I find stuff I plan to keep…at least for a while…like these:

(Maybe I’ll get around to watching these DVD’s).

$2/ea, so I spent $12 on DVDs…not good, when you’re a reseller, and don’t keep anything.

When I noticed they were $2/ea, I found a good many I could live without…like the Rockettes Christmas Show, which I’ve already seen in person, and on youtube.

DVDs

And what are the chances of finding 2 almost identical vintage parrot pillows in 2 different places??

I kinda liked these…

$2 for this pillow

Parrot pillow 1

And 50¢ for a Parrot pillow cover. I couldn’t resist.

Do I have a parrot? No.

Have I ever had a parrot? No.

Parrot pillow 2

So on to the stuff I plan to sell…

I never turn down a Vintage Mirror Tray. I found this the last day at an estate sale. I don’t know why it was still there.

Cost: $2

Vintage Mirror Tray

I usually buy fabric if it’s cheap and cute. It has to meet both those requirements for me to buy.

Cost for all 3: 50¢

Fabric

Dahling, I can’t even remembah when I got my hot little hands on a vintage corset!! (SOLD)

And it was still there the last day!!

Cost: $2

Vintage Corset

I also never turn down a vintage Hollywood Regency tissue box cover.

Sh-h, now don’t tell anyone. At the last 2 estate sales, on the last day, these vintage tissue box covers were the only thing left in the bathroom.

Cost: $1.65

Larger Tissue Box Cover

At the next place, the whole house was totally cleaned OUT, and this was the only thing left in the bathroom.

And I grabbed it.

And they were going to charge me a dollar for this on the last day?

No mam.

Cost: 55¢

Gold Tissue Box Holder

So here’s a brass mouse figurine with a curly tail. So cute. But I’m finding that figurines just don’t sell very well.

Because a lot of the buying public are young women who don’t want something to dust. They’re minimalists now.

So why did I buy a brass mouse with a curly tail? He was just so darn cute. But I might be stuck with him.

I don’t want something to dust either.

Cost: 50¢

Little brass mouse with curly tail

Same goes for these lovely figurines. But they were such a great bargain.

I found these on the last day at an estate sale where a guy was serious about getting rid of everything. The next 3 things came from that sale.

This is called “Flight into Egypt” and by Goebel, West Germany. Perfect condition.

$2.50 for both of these.

Flight into Egypt Goebel Germany

And he threw this in…a music box (broken piece on the back), but I’ve sold broken and cracked, repaired, and less than perfect.

Cost: $1.25

Mother and child music box

A genuine Hummel Joseph from 1951 in perfect condition & sold.

Cost: $1.25

hummel joseph

I couldn’t resist these plastic plate holders. They’re kind of funky, and would look great on a wall for a boho look.

Cost: $1.65

Plastic plate holders

And I may have let my heart rule over my head here. I love these Victorian-ish (or maybe they’re 1920’s) hat pin holders! I’ve always wanted one…to sell not to keep. I found them in an attic.

I’m definitely embarrassed to tell you what I paid for these.

Cost: $10 (ugh yes).

After my head cleared, I wondered if the young-woman-buying-public is gonna want hat pin holders?
What do you think?

Hatpin holders and vase

Here’s another fun find. My hubby really doesn’t want me to sell this, but he doesn’t need it.

A vintage winding travel alarm clock…very nice quality.

Cost: $1

Vintage Wind up Travel Alarm Clock

And lastly, a vintage Chatty Cathy red coat and headband.

Cost: $5.50

The 50¢ is tax at the estate sale. Are you having to pay tax at estate sales now? I’m not happy about that at all. Bummer.

Hope you enjoyed the latest fun finds! I have more to show you and updates on sales will be in an upcoming post.

Florence, the hat pin holders are beautiful. They may take a while to sell, but they will eventually. Love the travel alarm clock…..it’s not a style I’ve seen. I never leave a vanity tray behind either. Great finds, thanks for sharing.

Great haul, Florence! I especially love the Chatty Cathy outfit. I found a pair of her red velvet shoes in perfect condition, quite by accident, in a bag of miscellaneous stuff for 50 cents over the weekend. Too bad we don’t live closer together…we could dress Chatty Cathy up and take her with us to a few more yard sales 🙂

I know the Chatty Cathy, right? I hardly EVER see anything like that…that’s affordable, that is. I love it when I find a gem among the castoffs too. Sometimes I do get lucky occasionally.

The parrot pillow and pillowcase are interesting. I was assuming the first one was handmade (maybe crayon painted and embroidered) but then the second one came up. The first one is definitely faded. I just love vintage linens.

Enjoyed your post. It seems like I haven’t been seeing them for quite awhile.

I enjoy seeing your finds. Estate sales are so high these days that I too wait until the last day to shop. Sometimes it is blahs and many times it is wow!

Thanks Donna! Sometimes I wait till the last day; & sometimes I go the first. You’re so right about the last day though. Sometimes it’s totally cleaned out & sometimes there’s a lot left. And sometimes those prices on the last day are STILL high, even with 50% off!

The parrot pillows! Squeeee! And how weird that they came from two different places. But that happens sometimes.

Love the alarm clock. I’ve never seen one like it. Music boxes – I took the music box out of whatever ugly thing it was in and sold just the box. $11 if I remember right.

We don’t have many estate sales here. Yard sales are kinda it most weekends and are hit or miss. I’ve found some decent things but not enough to inspire me to get out for 5 sales 15 miles away like this past weekend. 😕

Great idea about the music box! I never thought of that, but you can bet I’m gonna explore how to take it out since the figurine is broken. Wanda, I’m so sorry the sales aren’t better in your area. It’s a real bummer. I can understand why you don’t bother to go out sometimes.

Florence – thanks so much for your blog. Just love to check out your finds! Wow — Chatty Cathy — had all but forgotten that one from my childhood. I had one and wish I had her now (likely worth a little). That being said, I wish I had my original troll doll too with the bright pink hair. Geez. Brings back tons of good memories. I also live in a place that has estate sales but they are very pricey (at best) and garage sales are just that – pure garbage. They would be better off just to head to the dump. I love the Dallas area where they are masters at garage sales and have the best stuff! Just not here in Albuquerque, NM. Keep entertaining us Miz Florence!!

Thanks Penny. I appreciate you telling me you enjoy the blog! And about Chatty Cathy, I rarely find anything related to her. It’s too bad we didn’t keep those things from childhood, although I never had a CC doll. Always wanted one though!!

I have never heard of paying tax at an Estate Sale!
Maybe they were charging for their permit.

No, I questioned & they said it was tax. I hope they won’t all start doing it.

Ugh, there a few that charge tax in my area too. Didn’t the item already have tax paid on it when it was originally purchased?! I guess other things are that way (ie. used car at a dealer) but it doesn’t seem right.

Oh know, then it’s probably going to become a widespread practice. I agree with you…doesn’t seem right.
