Hauls From 4 Thrift Stores

I recently made hauls from 4 thrift stores…Yay! I’m thrilled to report to all my followers that I’m doing better! The bones are healing; I’ve graduated from wheelchair to cane, and I’ve felt like getting out this week. Still trying to build up stamina and strength, but I had enough to visit 4 thrift stores on Friday. So I wasn’t directly affected by all those cyber-attacks.

The closest thrift stores had nothing to speak of, so everything I got was from further afield in a little town called Pell City, about 50 miles away. They have a couple of thrift stores and some interesting looking antique shops I’ll check out next time. Not a huge haul, but I was glad to find something. It was a beautiful Fall drive anyway.

Wooden Perpetual Calendar

I think these Wooden Perpetual calendars are pretty cool & should sell in my Etsy shop. This also has a pencil holder.

A couple of swatches of fabric, which usually do well for me.

Pretty little wooden sleigh by Enesco, dating from the 80’s

Here’s another odd find I could use some help with. I wouldn’t have given it a second look, but hubby thought I should get it.

It is a cast iron 1/2 lb weight, and marked “L” on the back, which I assume means “left.” Am I right? I’m assuming this is a counterweight, but how would it be used? Does anyone know?

Lastly, I’ve been on the hunt for a small jewelry chest I could makeover, and I finally found one! I can’t wait to get started.

Marie from The Interior Frugalista is the queen of these makeovers. She is my inspiration! Here is one of her boxes. http://www.interiorfrugalista.com/2016/04/mint-jewelry-box-makeover.html

Hopefully the next time I make hauls from 4 thrift stores, I’ll find more treasure.

What nice treasures you found. Yes I am on the prowl for a small jewelry chest also because of Marie’s fabulous makeovers. I can’t wait to find out what the weight is for.

Perpetual calendars are always worth looking into. I like that one. How old do you think it is?

So, is there a hook on the weight? My guess is a clock weight, but if there’s no hook…….

I haven’t been to the PC thrifts in a long time. Glad you found some good stuff!

You know, I can’t guess how old it is. It could be anything. Nah, the weight has no hook. I plan to visit PC again…seems like I always find something there. I went to Salvation Army just down the street (the one you went to) but nothing there.

I would guess that the weight is a counter weight. One one side, you would put the weight. On the other side, you would put the stuff you wanted to weigh. Let’s say you wanted to weigh candy corn. The left side where the weight sits would be flat, and the right side would possibly be a removable piece with a pour spout. After weighing, a bag would be placed near the spout, and the candy corn would be poured into a bag. Sound good? Happy Halloween!

The weight is my favorite just because! Look at you – a true junker – trekking forward with her cane.

Florence you got a very good selection. I love the fabric you found and that sleigh is so cute. And yes Marie is most definitely the Queen when it comes to makeovers for jewelry boxes.

I’m so glad you’re feeling better and on the road to recovery Florence. I have absolutely no idea what that black weight thingy could be, but it’s pretty cool. The jewelry box is gorgeous and with Marie as your inspiration you can’t go wrong. It’s going to look stunning
