Hello Everyone!

Back for another vintage Fall haul. People love to see the latest finds & these are from several recent picks.

Yard, Estate Sale, Thrift Store Finds

Decorative Bird Cage…Thrift store find.

I plan to fill this with Christmas balls & put in my booth next week.

Paid $1.99

decorative bird cage

Ceramic candle stand…thrift store find

I guess this looks blah, but when I find the right top for it, it’ll be a decorative stand!

Paid $1.99

Candle stand

Very nice vintage enamel chamber pot…yard sale find

Paid $5

vintage enamel chamber pot

Coca Cola push button phone…yard sale find

Paid $5

coca cola push button phone

Cross Pen Pencil Set…yard sale find

Paid $4

cross pen pencil set

Fill a bag with as much fabric as you can stuff into it for $5!

Yours truly is planning on making a crazy quilt…

that is,

when she’s not painting furniture for her booth,

and not listing things on Etsy,

and going to yard and estate sales.

Someday she’s going to fit in a crazy quilt too.

fabric grab bag

“Sewing Embellishments for the Fabric Artist,” as the package says.

These are what you decorate the crazy quilt with…AND you do it by hand.

That’s when you’re not painting furniture for your booth,

Listing things for Etsy,

Decorating for Christmas,

And going to yard and estate sales.

Paid $1.50

sewing Embellishments

More gorgeous fabric.

Really, someone needs to yank me away from fabric piles.

Paid $6 for the rose one which is 5 yds. $2/ea for the others.

Fabric Yardage

Fern Stand

Found in a neighbor’s trash.

Well, I couldn’t leave it there, could I???

It just needs a little tiling repair.

Should it come before or after the crazy quilt?

Fern Stand needing repair

Vintage Hollywood Regency trash can cover with liner. I hardly ever find the liner too.

Paid $2

hollywood regency trash can cover

Quilting How-to Books…these are for me. My dream has always been to make a crazy quilt using men’s ties.

Paid $4 for all.

quilting books

Recipe Books and loose recipes…

in a free pile at a yard sale.

Novelty Tape Measure inside a Sewing Machine Figurine

Am I the only one who can’t see a glaring problem with something until after they get it home?

See all that white stuff on the front? That’s where paint has worn off. I swear I never saw it.

Until. I. Got. Home.

That’s why it was only 50¢.

Duh.

But I have a plan for fixing it.

And it only cost me $10.99

sewing machine tape measure

I always wanted one of these tall candle pillar things.

Just picture it painted white with distressed brown showing through.

Paid $5

Tall candle pillar

Vintage Patterns

I can’t resist those either.

50¢ each

Vintage Patterns 1

Vintage Patterns 2

Vintage Powder Jar

I love girly girl things even though I’m not girly girl.

Paid $3

Vintage Powder Jar

This is a wooden canister thingy with a handle. I’ve had it a while. Still don’t know what to do with it.

Any ideas?

Paid $4.99

Wooden Box Canister Thingy

Furniture Picks

Twin Pair Nightstands

I’ve been working all week on these getting ready to take to my booth.

Customers at our store want only matchy-matchy, so that’s what I look for. (Nothing in my house matches.)

Paid $15 for both. I had to do a bit of haggling to get them down from $30.

Twin pair nightstands

Round Drum Table

Yard sale find

Planning on staining the top.

Tip: Using Oxalic Acid (wood bleach) or Bar Keeper’s Friend gets black water stains out of wood.

Paid $10

Round table

Long Dresser with Mirror

Downside of this is that it’s crackle finish. Hubby wants me to take it in as is, but I don’t like the crackle.

Question for furniture people: Is it totally out, or is crackle still desirable?

Paid $50

Large Dresser with Mirror

Tall Fern Stand we got at the same sale.

Just needs a paint job & it’s good to go.

Do I have a thing for fern stands, or what?

Paid $5

Wooden Fern Stand

Cute Ladies’ Desk

I found this in Demopolis at a thrift store.

Paid $40, which was about 20 more than I wanted to spend, but whaddaya do?

Ladies' Desk

I lucked up on this at a yard sale.

French Provincial Nightstand

Paid $12

Needs a makeover, and all that takes is time.

French Provincial Nightstand

Antique Buffet

Found this on Facebook Marketplace

Paid $80, which was about $60 more than it was worth.

It was broken apart in every place it was possible to be broken and still stand up.

If it wasn’t for “handy hubby,” who fixed everything, I don’t know what I would have done.

But it is old.

I swear I didn’t see this damage either. Maybe I should have that cataract surgery after all.

Antique Buffet

Well that’s it friends. Don’t forget to answer my questions.

Well, the $12 French nightstand redeemed not seeing the other’s flaws. And no, you’re not alone. I always get home and find the glaring broken spot, chip, missing paint, etc. that I missed when I looked it over and over and ran my fingers over the whole thing – more than once – before buying. Sheesh!

Have you checked the tape measure’s value? They used to be somewhat desirable. Not like taking care of next month’s car payment or anything, but still more than a few bucks. I was always looking out for them. Rarely found any and kept the two or three I did find. Is it possible the missing paint won’t matter? Or are they one of the things that have lost their desirability like Occupied Japan?

Make that crazy quilt, girl! Because, well, what else will you do with your “spare” time? LOL

It is fun seeing what you’ve found. I’m living vicariously these days. Although yesterday, I had an ever so slight urge to go to the sales when I passed an estate sale sign. I knew the company conducting the sale priced things more than I want to pay, so passed. I might go to the half price sale today. Please keep posting your buys and sales! I need to get back to work and it helps motivate me!

No I didn’t know those tape measure things had value. I just bought it cuz I liked it & thought someone else might. I’m thinking of repainting it. I might try it though without painting it. Girl, you need to get back into your booth & Etsy! I miss seeing your perspective.

Thank you Lynn! Miss doing the booth thing with you! Have you seen P & P lately? Looks like it’s closed down. No sign. Looks like they might be using it for storage only.

Hey Florence I miss doing the booth thing with you too! I am loving my tiny space at Hoover Antique Gallery. Some months are better than others of course but it is just so fun. They are so good to us there and so very helpful. I think P and P is still open but might not be the same hours. I need to get out and see your space sometime. Maybe we can do a lunch day soon!

Lynn, I’m glad you’re enjoying Hoover Antiques! I always enjoy browsing over there. Yes, come on over to Paisley Pig! I think you’ll be impressed.

Hi Florence, you have quite a haul and a lot of work to do on the furniture. Love the ladies desk, so pretty as is. From my experience, crackle is out. Canisters are a hard sell, yours is unusual but could be repurposed as a planter. Paint it and put a plastic liner in it for a plant. Love your energy, take a picture of your booth when you fill it. I have been crazy busy at work and my booth is on oxygen. Next Saturday I’ll fill it for the holidays. Enjoy!

Good to hear from you Ann! You’re right, I’ve piled up a lot of work for myself, so I’m going to quit buying any furniture for a while. Glad to hear your perspective on crackle. I too think it’s out. Thanks for the idea on the canister too. I like your idea. I keep forgetting to take a photo of my booth. Hope you’ll get a little slack in your work so you can get back to doing what you love.

Florence I see a trend where the farmhouse look is on the way out. Crackle of course is part of that distressed worn look. But the bottom line is that people have individual tastes so someone may like it. I think you should try to sell it as is. If it doesn’t sell then you may have to refinish it.

On second thought Florence it doesn’t look like a crackle finish to me. It looks more like a feathery brushstroke finish which is actually quite pretty.
