Time for the monthly roundup of What Sold on Etsy for March 2018! It was a slooowwwww month with only 18 sales. Sometimes March can be good, but in general I’ve found that as the weather warms, people aren’t in front of computers as much, and sales dwindle. I see it every year, so try not to get upset by it. In this business, learning to handle the bad months as well as the good can be an adjustment.
Keep reading to the end to see the update on the ring I mentioned in my last post.
What Sold on Etsy in March 2018
Sales in my main Etsy shop~Vintage Southern Picks
I found this pointy brass box in an antique shop around Christmas of last year.
Bought for $1. Sold to someone in New York City for use in a play…$24.00
Crochet thread lot…priced cheap to move it. I don’t buy crochet thread anymore. I’ve had this a long time and can’t remember at the moment what I paid for it.
Sold for $8.50.
Galvanized metal lighthouse, a recent estate sale purchase. This was unusual and I believe handmade.
Paid $1.00. Sold $21.00
Another recent estate sale purchase. I found it on the last day when there was very little left to be had.
Bought $2.00. Sold $22.00
Another purchase from the same estate sale. I was surprised these vintage Tupperware mugs were still there.
Bought $2.00. Sold $20.00
I’ve had these knife, spoon, and fork napkin rings a while. They were losing their finish, so I painted them gold. An estate sale purchase in Tennessee, where we often go to visit family. I always squeeze in an estate sale or two!
Bought 66¢. Sold to someone in Switzerland for $17.00 I lost money on this due to the shipping being much more than I figured on. I’m still not quite sure how I made that mistake!
I loved this large metal industrial basket! So cool! Sold to someone in Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas.
Bought $2.00. Sold $59.50, which included free shipping.
Bought at an estate sale in Sylacauga, Alabama, I’ve had these a while. Old spring door hinges, and one was broken, rendering it unusable. The gal who bought them planned to repurpose them into business card holders!
Bought $1.00 Sold $10.00
Another estate sale purchase I’ve had a while. A pair of vintage pillowcases with crochet detail.
Bought $2.00. Sold $16.00
3-piece set of Spode “Winter’s Eve” china (retired)…given to me by a cousin.
Free. Sold for $30.00
Vintage Straw paper plate holders, thrift store purchase.
Bought…can’t remember, but if they’re not cheap, I don’t buy, LOL. Sold $17.50
Wooden pants hangers. Probably bought in a thrift store. I can’t remember how much without spending lots of time looking it up in my records book. I keep handwritten books. For me, it’s easier than Excel spreadsheets.
Sold $26.00
This is the last of 3 faux oil paintings I found in a little shop in Greenback Tennessee last year.
Bought $5.00 Sold $25.99
I found an old picture album at an estate sale last year. It was full of African American snapshots and falling apart. I had no idea if it would sell or not.
Bought 10¢. Sold for $18.00.

And now for the update on the baby pinkie ring I found in a vacuum cleaner recently….
I took it to a jeweler I use…
And learned…

Fooey Patooey…
So I guess I’m $6 richer!

The ring is still adorable. I’d have to keep it. Maybe put it on a chain for a necklace. And then probably never wear it, but still…..
You still did pretty well in sales. I was thankful to sell anything. Getting back into a work routine is definitely not happening any time soon for me.
I remember the door hinges. I’m glad you said what the buyer was going to do with them. I believe I put a hinge like them in a moving sale box. Yeah, I’ll be pulling that when I see it again.
I still don’t get the paper plate holders. I just can’t tell the difference between old and new. They all look the same to me. 🙁
Well, for one thing the paper plate holders had labels on them from “the People’s Republic of China,” which is an old label. They don’t call it that anymore, as you know. But the other thing, I’ve noticed is the vintage ones have a lip on them whereas the newer ones do not. To me they look different!
Oh, I was so excited the hinges sold! I figured whoever bought them would have another idea in mind for them besides the original purpose. I hope you find yours.
I never noticed a lip or no-lip on the paper plate holders! And I never thought about looking for a label. Duh. I’m glad I mentioned it. Thanks for the edumacation on that!
The lip is the upraised and braided edge which I don’t see on more modern ones.
I always look forward to this post each month. You did well this month. I especially like the old hinges. The Tupperware cups reminded me that I still have the child’s version which I use as shot glasses. I have to many favorites to list them all this month.
I’m happy that you look forward to them Debra! Oh my goodness, I didn’t know Tupperware made a child’s version of the mugs! I’m going to have to look for those! Glad you saw something you liked!
Ah the mystery ring. Well, $6 is still $6. And it always amazes me what sells! I love the napkin rings. It’s a bummer you lost money, but they’re adorable.
That’s the way I look at it Kim. I’m a whole $6 richer than I would have been, LOL. Dashed hopes for sure!
Hey Florence! Always interesting to see what sells. Glad to see that the Winter’s Eve plate, bowl and mug sold for you! Nice profit made on free! Keep it up cousin! 😁
You bet Becky! I’m grateful for your gift of the pieces! Thanks so much!
Always enjoy these posts too. That little ring is adorable. Wish it could talk!
Yes I wish that ring could talk too! So glad to know you enjoy the posts Mary!
I still think that little ring is just beautiful and the story behind how you found it makes it a real treasure. Wonderful news about the photos Florence. If shipping wasn’t so expensive to S Africa I would have snapped them up a long time ago 😉 Hope you enjoy the warmer weather even if the sales drop a little
Thanks Michelle! I am enjoying warmer weather & more time to get caught up on other things, which I’m grateful for. I’m sorry I didn’t get more of the photos to you Michelle, but honestly, there were so many that weren’t great quality. I got tired of them taking up space around here, I had to let them go.
Florence there is so much of what you have that makes me stop and say “hey I may have one of those.” I’m going to have a yard sale at the end of the month (hopefully) so whatever doesn’t go we will talk about any maybe you can sell them for me.
Mary, I’ll be happy to help you out any way I can. Wishing you the best of luck on your yard sale. I’m having one too…getting ready for a massive purge.
So that brass box, we had one growing up and my grandmother told me it was a cricket box to put crickets in for music. IS THIS TRUE?? Because that would be awesome and horrifying all at once.
Well, it does look like those cricket boxes, but I don’t think this one was used for that. What do I know though? Found in an antique shop, so I don’t know what it was used for. But let’s put it this way, I didn’t see any little bug parts in it, LOL.
