In trying to get the estate sale groove again, I found two sales a few weekends ago to wet my whistle. Are the days gone where I’m setting my alarm clock to arise at dawn to get my night-owl, yard-sale-lovin’ non-morning-person, bloodthirsty self out?? Mebbe yes…mebbe no. Join me in seeing the latest finds…
As I’ve shared in previous posts, I try not to get my panties in a wad about getting there early, and may I admit I detest standing in line?
One was a downsizing/moving sale by someone I knew, but mostly newer stuff remained by the time I got there. I did find a few treasures.
Not old…a little plant stand chair. This is for me. At some point, I will paint it white, but not high on the priority list.
Vintage silverplate filigree Salt & Pepper shakers…
Vintage tape measure…paid $3…worth about $25.
Love the basket…perfect condition, and I plan to use that in some more Fall displays when the pumpkins start coming in, or it could be used to hold Christmas balls in season. The vintage galvanized bucket looks great in farmhouse displays.
This is not an old watering can, but the candlestick is vintage.
It’s 26″T…dwarfing every tall one I’ve ever seen! I would like to repurpose it …not sure what yet. Painting is a first step…after that, any ideas?
A pretty little metal tray…not old…keeping for the moment until I decide what to do with it.
Don’t you love it when you find something you really need? I had just told Gary we better stop and get some of this after the estate sale.
…AND it’s not dried up!
The next sale was unplanned. I happened to see the sign on the way home, so we stopped to investigate. Turned out it was a sale where the owner wasn’t sure what to collect, so they collected EVERYTHING. Packed full of stuff, run by the family, and very over-priced, but I did find a few affordable items.
Favorite find of the day~vintage kitchen bins from the ’30’s. Paid $20 for all 4. These have a great farmhouse look.
Vintage letter opener with a pocket knife and case…in beautiful condition. 
I have never seen this combo before, have you? I’ve sold a lot of letter openers in my time. See the 3 pretty hatpins? Just loved those ($2/ea). The vintage hats that were there were pretty, but at $10 each out of my budget!
Not terribly old, but this was a cute pierced earring holder. It has a bit of rust, but adds to the charm IMHO. Can be found in my Etsy shop.
To give you another example of high prices, a Waterfall chest of drawers, a dresser, and a bed for $3000! The Waterfall style is not too popular around here unless painted. They were probably going to be keeping that!
So did I get the estate sale groove or not???!

Oh I’m soooo jealous, such beautiful finds. Loving the salt and pepper shakers and the little bird tray. Oh my and that candle stick is reeeaaallly tall. Wow. No idea what I do with it, but I’m sure you’ll turn it into something extraordinary.

Gosh, it’s hard to get back into the groove, isn’t it?! You found some neat things, though. I love the bucket and am totally smitten with the canister set! *Those* make my heart go pitter pat. 😀
It’s funny about the wood filler. My dad was telling us yesterday how he had gone to Best Buy to buy a cable for his TV and his girlfriend talked him out of it because it was $20 and he didn’t even know if that was what was wrong. The very next day he found one at a yard sale for a quarter. He took it home, changed out the old cable and the TV was fixed. He was a happy guy.
Wow, your dad lucked out just like I did! Oh, I love the canister set too! Didn’t ever think I would luck up on a set.
You have it going there. You found some very nice items. I really like the salt and pepper shakers and the galvanized pail. As for getting up early, I find it is getting harder and harder.

Florence, you got some good stuff at both sales. I really like the watering can and candlestick, and the bird plate is so pretty! You’re right they’re probably going to be keeping the bedroom set at the second sale. It’s always funny when you see people who think they’re things are made of gold huh?

The bucket is my favorite followed by the bins. I am past getting up early to stand in line – I usually wait until the prices drop. I figure if it was meant for me, it will still be there. $3000!?! Waterfall furniture sets difficult to sell at $150 per set here. I would paint the candlestick, then sand off to distress, but you knew I would do that.
Yep, I did know it. In fact, we’re on the same wavelength there. Just have no good repurpose ideas, but maybe something will come to me. Interesting your perspective on the Waterfall. I like the style myself, but so many people don’t. It doesn’t sell well around here, as I mentioned. I love the bucket too. One thing that wasn’t sky high.

Oh, I love me a good estate sale! Heading to one in the morning and I can’t wait. Your favorite is my favorite. The darling kitchen tins. 🙂 My hubby has a measuring tape like that. It is pretty cool. Love the canisters and that sweet salt & pepper set. We don’t have estate sales around here, just estate auctions every once in a while. It would be fun to go to one someday. That plant chair will look amazing painted any colour, but I would probably have to do pink. Surprise, surprise.

I usually don’t purposely go to Estate Sales because they are so pricey, but if I drive by one, of course I will stop! Always find the men who are helping. They never know the prices and give out really low ones! I love that canister set! If I had any counters I would love it in my kitchen!
Wow AnnMarie, what a great tip! This sale didn’t have any men, but I will look for them now on. Agree with you on estate sales…they are pricey, but they usually have vintage. There have been times, though, that I get disgusted & quit going.
I once went to an estate sale and was left with my mouth hanging open at the prices. You would think that each piece was a collectable. I eneded up buying a picture frame. Now you did much better than me. And I know you are going to find uses for all these lovelies. The tall candlesticks are beautiful, maybe you can repaint them a soft white or even a metallic color would look nice.
Yes I know what you mean Mary! Some of these people running estate sales must think the pieces are made of solid gold! I’m thinking over now what to paint the candlestick. Metallic is a good idea I hadn’t thought of.
