Here it is the middle of October, 2017, and I’m just now doing the Ebay/Etsy Sales Recap September 2017. Better late than never, I suppose. Can we all agree that the year is flying by? It was a total of 32 sales in 3 shops.
EBAY ETSY SALES RECAP
Ebay Sales:
Just one sale on Ebay, and here it is…a Fred Bear 24 hr Emergency Candle. Sold for $32 and I probably could have gotten more, but there were no sold stats to compare to at the time I was listing it.
Funny Story: Hubby saw this at a thrift store one day when we were out, and put it in the cart. It was $1, and I remember thinking, “What in heaven’s name are you buying THAT for??? We don’t need it,” but he can hardly resist a gadget. I didn’t say anything. Only to find out later, these things are collectible! It was gone in 24 hrs. of listing it. Can you believe it??
Etsy Sales for Vintage Southern Picks
This was a fun sale…a Gag Gift Walking Cane…one of those “Over the Hill” gifts. It had a rearview mirror, rabbit’s foot, and plastic bicycle horn attached to a bamboo cane…cute as could be, and I found it in a neighbor’s trash can! Sold for $16.
10 Large Wooden Buttons…sold these for $4 with free shipping. I made a little on them.
Vintage Makeup Mirror…I bought this for $6, which is more than I like to spend for these. Usually I can find them for $1-2, but I bought because they sell well. Sold for $30
I had to do a lot of work on the salt shaker when I bought these. It had corroded so badly that the cap wouldn’t come off. Finally we got it off, but a lot of corrosion remained about the lid, which is what happens when people leave salt in the shaker. It took a long time to sell. I bought these Filigree Silver Salt and Pepper Shakers because I thought they were pretty, but never again before I check that lid thoroughly. Sold for $20.00
The next two items sold together for someone doing a Farmhouse kitchen. Napkin Holder combo sold for $18.95…
And a Wooden Mail Organizer on which I painted some doily stencil designs…sold for $28.
I bought some sewing stuff at an estate sale in Tennessee, and this Sewing Trim was one of the items. There were a lot of factory flaws within the trim, but there was 36 yards of it, so it sold right away for $19.00
And at that same sale I bought one of these storage containers full of sewing notions. These types of empty containers are all over Etsy. I wasn’t sure if it would sell or not, but it went right away….$9.00
Vintage Recipe Boxes usually do fairly well…Sold for $18.00
I bet you don’t know what these are! I didn’t either. Someone running a yard sale gave us these saying they were Vintage Piano Handles, used to move an old piano around. I just knew they wouldn’t sell. In fact, I had already removed them from the package to put in our next yard sale. If that didn’t work, maybe burn them…haha. But they sold for $16. Just goes to show…sometimes those odd quirky things are what appeal to people.
This was a really quality Pewter cup I found at a thrift store in Tennessee. I wasn’t sure how old it was, but it was signed “Frieling Zinn” 95% pewter, made in Germany. It was covered with various postal delivery designs on the sides. I wasn’t able to find out much about it, so I priced it cheap at $15.99.
This is a really nice letter opener, which had a pocket knife attached. Sold $21.99
Stack of Nancy Drew books, which were reprints. I got them cheap, but I will never buy again. They took forever to sell. $20.00
This was a really pretty and somewhat unusual framed wall mirror that could also be a jewelry tray…found at a thrift store in Mississippi. Sold for $35.00
Here is a large jewelry box that opened out like you see below…really big. When I bought it, I didn’t notice that the outer lining was off in some places, completely exposing the bare wood underneath. Don’t you hate it when you don’t notice major flaws like that? And then, to top it all off, I offered way too much on it…$10, and they said, “yeah, we’ll take 10!” Well, I didn’t see the flaws at that time. The lighting was poor, and my eyesight isn’t good either, so I overpaid for it.
I attempted the fix which you see in photos…decorative paper which I decoupaged on. I didn’t want to paint this, and I didn’t want to attempt to finish removing the outer lining, so I did what I could to disguise the issues. I really hated it, but didn’t know what else to do.
The saving grace of this whole fiasco…was a vintage jewelry set (Rhinestone brooch and ear bobs) overlooked in the case, which sold last year for $48.
The case sold for $44.00, and the person who bought it, seemed delighted. It ended well.
This was a piece of Lamp Salvage, identical to a piece sold last month, $15
More pieces of lamp salvage…set of 4 Bobeches, made out of pot metal, and paint chipped. Sold for $24.00
Wooden In/Out Tray, shipped all the way to Australia. Sold for $28.00
Set of Embroidery Hoops…sold $11.00
This is a Mini Hand Mirror, only 4″L. Sold for $21.00
A US Flag Belt Buckle…sold for $17.50
A darling little Ladies Crochet Hat Pincushion…sold for $8.00
Empty Baccarat box…sold for $9.00. I had no idea an empty Baccarat box was appealing to anyone. Originally I had it with some other old jewelry display cases I was selling in a lot. Two people emailed me wanting to buy the red box alone, so DING…DING…DING, that told me I should sell it separately. I told the first person I would sell it to him for $10, and I never heard from them again, but I ended up selling it for $9. So yes, people will buy empty boxes!
In fact, I have to tell you this little story too. I was going through some things up in the attic a few years ago, and found a vintage Vogue Ginny doll box (empty). I almost threw it in the recycle bin, but I thought, “no, I’ll see if I can sell it on Ebay.” Would you believe that empty box sold for nearly $50??
Sorry this is so long y’all. I have a few more…
Sales from~SquareDanceNWestern…my 2nd Etsy Shop
This was an outstanding beautiful men’s western shirt of my husband’s….very Roy Rogers-looking…only worn a few times. Sold for $69.99
I’ve had this uncut Western shirt pattern on Ebay and Etsy off and on. Finally someone bought it, and paid Priority Mail Express to get it there. Sold for $15.65
Pink petticoat of mine…sold for $20.00
Wide Navy Belt…sold for $17.00
I made this myself…a Halloween Apron/Overskirt…sold for $20.00
Black Christmas Blouse…sold to a gal in Spain for $8.00
Another beautiful Western shirt…sold for $45.00
Whew! That was a long one! September is often slow, but it was a good month. Thanks for sticking with me!
Of all the items I’ve showed you, what was your favorite?

Hi Florence, thanks for sharing. I had no idea Vintage makeup mirrors sold! I love the mirror/vanity tray. I sold/shipped 4 items to Australia in the last 3 weeks….. and 2 were quite heavy. I had a good September also.

Hi Linzey!
Glad you had a good month too. It’s remarkable that Aussies will pay that shipping to get stuff over there, but I’m glad! What is your shop again?
Linzey says
Florence, I have two Etsy shops. LinzeyLovesVintage and LinzeyLovesDonny. I really should provide links. My sister is into expensive couture clothing. She brings me pastries (she loves to bake) in little shopping bags. She likes to recycle. I LOVE the bags more than the pastries. I’ve sold Louis Vuitton, Dior, Tiffany, etc empty bags and boxes especially around Christmas. Of course I think the same. They’re empty!
Florence says
That’s funny about the bags Linzey! Isn’t it amazing that people will buy empty boxes and bags?? At least I think so. The pastries sound good & I haven’t even seen them yet!! Going to have to check out your shops again…I think I’ve looked once, but can’t remember exactly which one. Thanks for dropping in.

I LOVE it when these posts are long! Means things are going well. 😀 You dun goooodddd!!!
Those piano handles. Ha! I would never have guessed out of context, but when you said piano handles…. of course! They’re attached to the back of every piano I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen a lot of pianos. I wonder how the buyer is going to use them? Display them? Use in artwork? Restore a piano?
I’ve either passed up or put in my own yard sale those wooden in-out boxes. I can’t tell if they came from Office Depot last month or if they’re old. :-/ Or if I *an* tell they’re old, it’s because they’re beat up really bad. And even that’s not a guarantee.
And I’ll never look at those metal bobeches the same again. I actually think I have some around here. Somewhere.
I once sold an empty Tiffany box. It seems like it might have sold for around $20. But that memory may be faulty. I do remember thinking, “The buyer does realize it’s empty, doesn’t she?”
May we all have at least an equally good month in October! Mine is doing much better than September, but still not as good as you’ve reported here. You go girl!
Florence says
Those piano handles really surprised me! I wondered what the buyer was going to do with them too, but I don’t ask anymore. I seldom get answers. The in/out box had an old label on it which I’ve looked up before, but I can’t remember what era it was from. It was vintage & in great shape. I love it when I find them in good shape b/c they do sell, but sometimes take a while. Haha, laughed when I saw what you said about the Tiffany box! I’ve thought that same thing…they DID read that it was empty? Glad your sales are going better.
Tania says
Wow! You did great! I had no idea Western/Square Dancing clothes would sell so well, I see them at estate sales occasionally but never thought to get them!
Tania
Florence says
I really didn’t know if they would sell either, but I’m glad there’s interest. I’ve been surprised it’s done so well. I seldom ever see them at estate sales around here unfortunately.
Kaycee says
I think the over the hill walking cane was a lucky free find and it had a great sale price! Well done!!
Florence says
Yes that was a lucky find & it was in such good shape. Wish I could have asked more for it, but they weren’t selling for much. Thanks for your comment Kaycee!
Kim says
It’s always interesting to see what people buy Florence. I love the apron. You are quite talented!
Florence says
Thanks Kim! Glad you found it enjoyable!

I saw you on FB the other day. Girl, you are just adorable. Your southern personality comes out on the live feed. Your sales were excellent for September. My daughter is trying to talk me into another booth that she promises to help with. We will see.
Florence says
Sharon, so glad you saw me “live.” Thanks for those encouraging comments! Sometimes I worry that the goofy hat routine brands me as goofy, but I don’t care….I have so much fun with it. Go for it with your daughter! I’m sure you’re good with a booth, and now you’ve had a nice rest. Time to go again.
Marie Phelps says
Thank you for all the effort you put into posting your sales. Love seeing what sells.
Thanks again, love following your blog.
Florence says
Thank you Marie! Your kind comment makes my day!

Florence says
Thank you Sarah! I loved Nancy Drew’s books too!
Linda at Mixed Kreations says
Looks like you did well last month. I guess I’m just cheap. But I can’t believe the prices that people pay for things, and some of the things that they buy. Wish I was better at knowing what to buy, and how much to sell for.
Sounds like your new shop is doing pretty good as well. Happy for you. Keep this up and your going to have a great year. For me your last month would of been and awesome year for me. Lol
Florence says
Thank you Linda! I’m pleased. I can’t get over what people buy either! I’m constantly surprised myself.
Mary says
Florence it never ceases to amaze me what people will buy. An empty box? Those piano lifters? Actually I am thinking right now how I can re-purpose them into hooks. So it just goes to show that everyone’s mind works a different way.
Florence says
Isn’t it the truth? It always amazes me too what people will buy!
Maria Brittis says
Looks like you did well! I have so many vintage stuff I have collected! throug-out the years. Tons and tons of albums, I really would love to put it on etsy but don’t know if I have the time with blogging and building a home. I actually used to sell at flea markets years ago.
Florence says
Thank you Maria! I encourage you to go for it in selling your stuff, but I sure understand how blogging takes up a ton of time, not to mention building a home too!
Michelle Leslie says
Looks like you had a really awesome month Florence and there a few really beautiful items in the mix too. We have two pewter wine goblets at home that look similar to your Frieling Zinn mug. I need to haul them out of the cupboard and check if I can find any markings. We bought them years ago when we toured through Germany. Hope your October is just as good, if not better
Florence says
Thanks Michelle! I appreciate your comment!
Amy says
I’m always amazed at the stuff you sell, Florence! You certainly have a good eye for these sorts of things. Sounds like it was a great month!
Florence says
Thank you Amy!
Debrashoppeno5 says
I am so impressed with how well you do on eBay and Etsy. I always enjoy reading these posts. I do have a question; when you sell to someone overseas is the shipping more than the item sold for?
Florence says
I’m glad you enjoy it Debra! Yes, it’s often true that they pay more for shipping than the item costs. Overseas shipping is just high period.
Keri Roberts says
Florence, glad you had a fantastic September! I think my favorite are the lamp parts. I remember those piano holders from the pianos my mom played when I was growing up, although I probably wouldn’t have been able to recognize them off of the piano. They would make great coat rack knobs. Those western shirts are beautiful, love the detail on them. Can’t wait to see what October held for you!
Florence says
Thanks Keri! It was a good month! I’m blessed. Yes those piano handles would make great knobs. Glad someone could put them to a good use.
